Returning Joes are a no ordinary gift to Anderson

Posted December 20, 2007

Most of you are aware that I'm a huge fan of the Anderson Joes. For starters, they got me interested in a game that to me was even more boring than cricket, which is hard to believe. So the news that the Anderson Joes will be returning was a great Christmas gift to me and, I suspect, many Andersonians...

I am intrigued to find out how they'll make the atmosphere even more "family friendly" and fun when I thought the quality of the entertainment was first rate even in its inaugural season. I suspect the biggest change, a shorter season, won't be a big deal for most fans, who will still have plenty of opportunities to catch a game.

The thorough account of the South Coast League's off-season business shakeup, however, was plenty eye-opening.

Front-office cleanouts are par for the course in a start-up league whose business model is still in development, but the article gave me the distinct feeling that the Joes return was never the "sure thing" we were led to believe that it was.

The details of the league's financial and organizational challenges definitely gives the city and Anderson University good reason to be cautious about any stadium deals they were being encouraged to consider by myself and others ...
