I'm Excited!
Posted March 28, 2008
For my honors course this semester, I did an honors contract for my Modern Fiction class with a teacher I had last semester.
The contract basically states that I'm going to do something outside of class that merits an honors credit in the class. Up to this date, I haven't done anything special for the class other than read an extra book, but my professor and I finally sat down on Tuesday to try to figure out exactly what it is I plan on doing.
I read Kazuo Ishiguro's book The Remains of the Day, which deals a lot with what it means to be in sort of the twilight years of your life. In other words, the book asks the question "What do you do with the remaining years of your life when you feel like your job, your purpose in life, has passed you by?" It's a really great book, and I'm really interested in reading some of his other stuff.
For my project, my professor and I had a tough time deciding what exactly I should do, because I want to take a look at that theme in particular in the book and approach in a way that is presentable through some other outlet. Eventually, my professor and I decided on a pretty cool idea. I'm going to write a short story on the theme that investigates the theme from the angle of someone my age or younger....someone who is really in the dawn of their life as opposed to the twilight. I think it will be a fun project, though time consuming, especially because I plan to provide artwork with it.
In other news, there honestly isn't too much news going on. Has my life gotten boring?
