"Why did you publish the article on the Clemson track coach being investigated? You give no reason why. By inference, people will (rightly or wrongly) decide this man has done something terrible because of the SLED investigation. I think a good policy for the paper is to say nothing at this point of time. Up to now, this coach seems to have been exemplary as a coach and a human being. Your article took care of that; now he has a bad reputation."

The Storyteller's best story

Not every Tom, Dick, Harry or Charmaine gets to write a column at a daily newspaper. Typically, a reporter pays some serious dues before a crusty editor decides he or she is worthy.

Charmaine Smith-Miles became worthy three months ago. That's when "The Storyteller" column was launched. Since then, Charmaine has been telling the stories of interesting people in and around Anderson.

Today, I want to call your attention to the latest "Storyteller" column. It is Charmaine's greatest column to date. The subject is Sarah Reese, who went from a little girl in Pelzer to an international opera star. She's back in this area, teaching the choir at Pendleton High School.

The column is longer than we usually let Charmaine write, but it's captivating. What a story! See for yourself.

Newest TV grids a hit with readers
