We're now less than 10 hours from Clemson's first road game of the season - at Liberty. That's right - the Tigers have a 10 a.m. tipoff this morning against the Big South's Flames, as part of ESPN's 24 hour college hoops tipoff marathon. I'm watching the first game right now - Cal State-Fullerton-UCLA - as I type this, but I'm sad to say I won't catch the next couple games - including a 6 a.m. tip between St. Peter's and Monmouth. Wish I could cover Clemson-Liberty, but this time of year, football and football interviews - especially those involving a No.18 team trying to clinch the ACC Atlantic Division title - take priority.
I do think it'll be an interesting test for Oliver Purnell's No.22 Tigers, especially with four freshmen playing their first road game in what will be a hostile, fired-up road environment.
It's the first of two mid-major road tests this week - Clemson travels to UNC-Greensboro Friday night.
This is not your brother's Liberty team - the Flames gave Clemson everything it wanted and then some in an 80-75 loss last November, but scoring sensation Seth Curry transferred to Duke and head coach Ritchie McKay is now an assistant on Tony Bennett's staff at Virginia.
Still, if you've got some time this morning, it's worth watching. I'll definitely be checking the score between interviews and watching the DVR broadcast when I get home later this afternoon.
