Off The Cuff

The nation's most important issue

Posted May 5, 2008

Here's an issue I haven't heard Obama, Clinton or McCain discuss - telemarketers who call my cell phone.

I realize they might call your cellphone, too, but this is about me right now.

The other day - for the first time since owning a cellphone - telemarketers began bombarding me and I ain't happy.

One reason I don't have a land line is because I never had to worry about these folks bugging me, but somehow, some way (and I'm guessing it's dirty campaign tactics by my foes), my cellphone has been released to everyone who makes a living by pestering people.

The first person wanted to give me information about working at home. The second wanted to give me the lowdown on several popular magazines. The third I had difficulty understanding. He either wanted to sell me a high-tech broom or was telling me I should convert to Buddhism.

In all I received 13 telemarketer calls in one day.

I have since contacted the Do Not Call Registry and as of today they seemed to have solved my problem.

But honestly, there should be a simpler solution.

So if elected I will make telemarketing to cellphones illegal. Not just illegal, it will be a federal crime that carries the death penalty.

The Federal DNC list should solve your problems from marketers, but not from politicians.

They can still call your cell phone.
