Calhoun Falls junior quarterback Justin Belcher missed last week’s game with a back injury but returned on Friday only to suffer a likely season-ending knee injury in the 34-14 loss to Ware Shoals. The injury moved senior receiver David Bryant to quarterback. Bryant was second on the team in receptions and receiving yards entering Friday with 23 catches for 279 yards and two touchdowns.
But the Blue Flashes had two of their suspended assistant coaches return to the sideline against Ware Shoals. Wide receivers coach Mike Craigo and defensive backs coach Travis Harris were suspended for the season following an Aug. 17 drinking incident on school property.
Coach Kenya Fouch told the Greenwood Index-Journal that Abbeville County School District Superintendent Ivan Randolph allowed the coaches to return, because “he was really impressed with the way they’ve handled it and the way that they’ve been positive,” Fouch said. “He thought it was enough time for them to learn what he wanted them to learn, and I agreed.”
