Annual Chili Cook-Off has new partner and a new look come Nov. 6

STORY TOOLS

The City of Anderson and Main Street Events have partnered yet again for a popular, downtown event.

The city and Main Street Events previously melded minds on the first ever Downtown Sounds event that ran from April through the end of August. Now, they will extend that relationship to include the popular Downtown Anderson Chili Cook-Off.

The Chili Cook-Off will take place Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Main Street from Earle to Market Streets in downtown Anderson. Coming into its ninth year, the cook-off has become one of the more attended events held in Anderson. It pits local restaurants against one another to find out whose chili packs the most punch and the most taste.

Previously, the winner took home bragging rights and a small cash prize for winning. This Nov. 6, things will get a little more interesting.

Byron Rucker, executive director of Main Street Events, announced that the 25 competitors will vie for a $500 first prize, $400 second prize and $300 third prize. The winners of those prizes will be decided by a panel of judges. A $200 Taster's Choice prize will also be offered based on the voting of those who attend the Chili Cook-Off.

Cost of admission for the cook-off will be $3 and will entitle goers to a taste of each chili. In addition, there will be a variety of activities for children and adults throughout the event.

For more information on the event, go to the new Web site at www.andersonchilicookoff.com.
