The Anderson Garden Club met on March 20 at the AnMed Campus and was hosted by Julie Miller and Pam File. The devotion was given by Frances Singleton and the 2008-09 slate of officers was presented. President elect is Rosemary Lindley; first vice president is Peggy McDougald; second vice president is Julie Collins; recording secretary is Nancy Cochran; corresponding secretary is Sandy Trimble, and treasurer is Joannne Phillips.
The officers were unanimously approved by the membership. Voting took place to fill the vacancies for new members.
Ms. Collins introduced John A. Miller, Jr., president of AnMed Health, who introduced Mike King, the grounds supervisor for AnMed Health. Mr. King spoke on “Exploring the Connection between Gardening and Health Maintenance.” The club then took a tour of the Roof Garden and Healing Garden on the health campus.
Julie Collins proudly announced that the Anderson Council of Garden Clubs presented six awards to the Anderson Garden Club at the annual awards luncheon.
The Award of Appreciation was presented to our Ms. Collins. A first-place award was given for the yearbook for a club with 30 to 45 members. A first place was given for “Meeting the Need” award. A first place was given for “The Most Original Holiday Table Decoration” award. A second place was given for “The Frances Vasen Rotating Silver Award.”
At the West Piedmont District meeting, a third-place award was given for the yearbook. Honor roll recognition was given for the president’s report. A certificate of appreciation was given for financial support of the South Carolina Chapter of the Nature Conservatory.
The Anderson Garden Club Spring Luncheon was held at the home of Caroline Tolbert’s Aunt Mildred’s house on April 17.
