In honor of the dying art of satire, The Cocklebur wanted to share this e-mail he received on his vacation.
To: Kevin Bryant
Subject: American HERO and PATRIOT!
Senator, some folks in your district don’t think you’re worth a dern. They don’t know nothing!
All that BS over that BS picture you posted on your Web site was kinda funny, ain’t it? How can anyone get offended by pointing out that the difference between Obama and Osama is the letter “B” and the letter “S” That’s just plain dumb. When they open their mouths, that’s exactly what comes out.
There’s nothing wrong with laughing at a politician once in a while. I got to level with you. I was playing with my grandson one Sunday morning, and he pulls out this doll – Buzz something or other if my memory serves – and I say to him, “Would you look at that! That son of a gun looks just like Kevin Bryant!” I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my recliner.
Anyhow, I see where you told that reporter from Channel 4 that you had no idea that posting that joke you got in an e-mail would cause such a ruckus. That’s the problem! We got too many people who like to get offended by every little thing they don’t like. Everyone’s got to be so politically correct. Like you told that fishwrapper, you don’t need to be apologizing to no one.
I remember the good old days when America was proud of people who tell it like it is, like that Archie Bunker. All he did was speak the truth. You know what? If those pantywaist liberals don’t like this country, they can go live in France! We got too many people in this state from up north and just about everywhere else who don’t understand American values and our Christian way of life.
You, sir, are a man of integrity not afraid to show the courage of his convictions. As every great American would say, I may disagree with you, but by golly, I’ll fight for your right to your facts! When you see a brown man who secretly wears a turban whose got names like “Barack,” “Hussein” and “Obama,” he’s a Muslim, and we all know it. You can take the man out of a Muslim country, but you can’t take the Muslim out of the man!
Like you said at that town hall meeting of yours that I was at, there’s nothing wrong with a little satire if it will make Americans scared of electing a president who hates America and wants to negotiate with terrorists. Lord have mercy! Ronald Reagan would turn in his grave!
You don’t have to worry. I told my friends to send that picture to everyone they have in the computer. And I reminded them that sending $100 to your campaign wouldn’t hurt none, either. Next stop, Columbia!
Anderson County is proud of you.
Bert

To infinity and beyond!
What was the purpose of publishing this letter? Are you supporting Kevin Bryant? Is the letter a joke? By that I mean not real because the letter is obviously a joke. What is sad is people are reading it and agreeing with it, and in turn will support someone like Kevin Bryant.
Too bad 90% of AMERICANS are afraid to come out and call a spade a spade. Obama should not be elected to or even allowed to run for the office. He refuses to pledge allegiance to the flag. And he refuses to respect the flag by placing his hand over his heart. And what is truly sad is that some of, if not most of you, will do nothing but bash Kevin Bryant for his stance. And what's even sadder is that some of you will even vote for this un-american piece of garbage.
McCain may not be the man for the job, but at least he respects the flag, the country, and all those that have died for it.

Goat34, buddy, where on earth do you get all this propaganda you keep repeating. Are you one of these people that believes everything they get in emails because it is in writing. Just because some website has a bunch of nonsense on it, doesn't make it the truth. All this lunacy about refusing to put his hand over his heart and not respecting the flag and all this other krap is just that, krap! What it does tell me, is the people running against Obama are running scared. They see the desire for change in the growing ground swell of diverse citizenry getting behind Obama and are scared to death. In this case the only two options we are being given are McCain and more of the same, or Obama and maybe just a CHANCE for some change in the way our government has worked to stack the deck against us. My family has been generations of Republicans and I have to admit I can't stand more of the same. People are going broke, losing their houses, crime is on the rise as people become more desperate. We are printing money at a rate that has lost the worlds respect for the dollar and it becomes worth less. People don't realize it isn't the price of things going up. Commodities have a pretty fixed use to value equation. When people say the price of gold has gone up, what they should be saying is the value of the dollar has gone down to X dollars an ounce. We are subsidizing the wealthy, the banks, Wall Street, big oil, big business, while our unemployment rises. We are all patriots to a man/woman. Does that mean Patriot Acts 1&2, the numerous executive orders quenching our rights to privacy and rule of law should just be accepted blindly and if we disagree we are unpatriotic? All of your comments about Obama have long been debunked as propaganda from Republican sources. I will accept your following of the Republican agenda if you will tell me exactly what and why we are in Iraq. Iraq has/and will cost trillions of dollars and more lives than I care to know. How do we measure if we were successful, when no one can tell us what the goal is.
Liberal, far left, far right, Democrat, Republican, blah, blah, blah. All those are names to factionalize us. Put us into groups, with minimal differences, causing a complete divide. If they keep us divided it keeps us weak. United we stand, divided we fall. Can we not stick to the 90% of things we all agree on to get our great county and country back on track?
in response to robert
I agree robert. Satire is supposed to be funny and using comedy to make a point. Just because the writer uses the words satire and laughing doesn't make it satire.
This entire letter was nothing more than an excuse to call people names and say idiotic things like a presidential candidate, voted for by millions of American citizens, hates America.
In this country, you are free to say what you like. Free speech, and the protection of it, is one of the nearest and dearest rights we enjoy. People make fun of candidates all the time. Cartoons galore from all sides. We live with it daily. What I have a problem with is the comparison of the world's most wanted man next to a United States of America presidential candidate, when they have nothing in common, save a letter difference in their name. To attempt to draw a parallel, based on that thin reed of an excuse, is indefensible and a slap in the face of the pople who support him. Their right to support their candidate and have a respectful acceptance of their candidate, is far more sacrosanct than this letter writer or this Senator Bryant's right to do "satirical politics." This whole matter was not as much a "cheap shot" as it was a disrespect for our democratic process and this candidate of millions.

Totally agreed
I support Kevin Bryant 100%.
Liberals are pathetic. I really mean it, this is not satire.
What kind of idiot would put a sheet on his head, and a goofy looking satin robe? He is an idiot, and looks quite goofy.
He will be a terrible President. He may make Jimmy Carter look competent.
