Central man charged in Pendleton shooting death

La Paz Street

— A Central man has been charged in the death of a 41-year-old man, who was found face down in a stranger’s yard near Pendleton.

Floyd S. Geer III of 107 Amanda Drive, Central, has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm in commission of a crime in connection with the death of Evens Guillaume of New York. Geer is being held at detention center awaiting arraignment.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said Guillaume, who was living in Clemson was shot at least once and killed Monday afternoon.

The body of Guillaume, 26, who has lived with his girlfriend in Clemson for about six years, was autopsied Tuesday. He died of a gunshot wound in which the bullet struck his heart and lung, Shore said.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said the shooting was an isolated incident from a conflict between two people. He said the two men were acquaintances, but did not reveal a motives.

Around 4:50 p.m. Monday, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of shots fired at 136 La Paz St. in Pendleton. When they arrived, they found the body of a man, face down in the yard under a pine tree.

Residents at the home, a man and a woman, said they came home around that time and found the man and a car that did not belong to them in their driveway.

The woman, who did not want to identify herself, said she thought Guillaumewas still alive when she called 911.

Shore said EMS personnel pronounced Guillaume dead at the scene.

After 6 p.m., Guillaune’s fiancee, who was not identified, came on the scene and told authorities that Guillaume was to meet her at the house at 4:30 p.m. but never arrived. It was unclear why the couple were to meet at the La Paz address.

According to the Anderson County property viewer Web site, the owner of the property is listed as Southern Solutions Inc. in Anderson. Calls to the company were not returned.

Shore and Anderson County Sheriff David Crenshaw said there are many questions at this point.

“Now that we know who the victim is, we’re trying to piece together what happened,” Shore said.
