ANDERSON Now they’ve all seen it.
The City of Anderson’s new, updated recreation master plan was reviewed by four council members Monday – the only four who were not on the council’s recreation subcommittee.
And except for a few questions, those four liked the plan, officials said. Overall, the plan’s recommendations are to centralize some of the city’s sports activities, placing them at the Anderson Recreation Center and then upgrading the parks with walking trails, playground equipment and more picnic shelters.
A plan to connect the parks and city neighborhoods through a system of trails for biking and walking are also included in the plan.
Tom Dunaway, Anderson Mayor Terence Roberts, Steven Kirven and Don Chapman were the council members left to review the plan on Monday.
“It’s absolutely gorgeous,” Dunaway said.
Since February, city officials and members of Arbor Engineering of Greenville have held community meetings across the city to talk to people about what they would like to see added or changed about the city’s recreation facilities.
All total, officials held about 20 meetings, the city’s Parks and Recreation Division Director Bobby Beville said.
Now, comes the next step: creating a potential priority list. A lot of the improvements will be funded through the hospitality tax revenue, Beville said.
It could take a couple of months to review the plan, come up with a priority list and a possible timetable – that will then be presented to the full council, Beville said.
