ANDERSON COUNTY Anderson County was awarded a $500,000 grant from South Carolina’s Department of Commerce today.
The Community Development Block Grant will be used to extend public water service in Starr and Iva.
The grant is one of 31 across the state totaling more than $11.4 million in state funds.
“Our administration has focused on bettering the economic soil conditions to promote business growth throughout the state and enhance opportunities for community and economic development,” Gov. Mark Sanford said in a statement. “These grants will help a number of communities address work force development and affordable housing needs helping them to become more competitive in attracting jobs and new investment.”
The project is expected to benefit 132 residents.
The project is expected to eliminate problems associated with dry and contaminated wells in the Starr-Iva area.
Grants are allocated to South Carolina from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

You live in the city. You already have a water line run to your residence. You think someone should pay YOU $3,787.88 for water. I think you should move to the country and pay a well digger 7,000 to 12,000 for a well and hope it last your lifetime. When a drought occurs wells collapse or dry up. Do without water as long as these residents have(who don't have water service in their area) and I'm sure you will toot this man's service also. Want to pay less, like the county residents? Stop using the public sewer system and move to the county where they don't have that service and pay someone (from your pocket) for a septic tank. The 3787.88 may be enough to pay for that if you're lucky.
