Congratulations to Taylor Fitch, who within approximately one month has received two titles and two crowns — and has a ton of plans for the coming year, including her final year of high school.
In mid-July, she was named Miss South Carolina Teen during the Miss South Carolina pageant. And just this weekend, Fitch became Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in Orlando, Fla.
While the high school senior will miss the first day of school, it is with special permission — from the school and her parents. On Wednesday, she will once again be a Belton-Honea Path student.
In many ways, she will be the same girl who ended her junior year. When asked after her national title what airline she would prefer to fly, Taylor explained that she had only flown twice in her life; she didn’t have a preferred airline. “We are proud of her,” said her mother DeeAnn Wright. “I think the biggest thing she was excited about was getting to meet 52 other young ladies from all over the country.” Taylor said right after the pageant that even though all the contestants had much in common, they saw some things from different points of view. And, she added, spending time with them had been among the highlights of the pageant.
Taylor’s parents (Al and DeeAnn Wright and Barry Fitch) may not see much different about their daughter, but one thing is: She will now have a little more money for her educational ambitions. Taylor won $31,000 in the pageant, DeeAnn said. Education is important to the family and to Taylor, who also won the overall scholastic award in the pageant, her mother said proudly. Taylor plans to attend Wofford College and major in biology, in preparation for medical school at Duke University.
The activities connected with her new title won’t interfere with school; events will be scheduled around weekends and holidays. One of her first events will be an appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.
She will promote the national platform of the Miss America Organization, the Children’s Miracle Network. But her own platform as Miss South Carolina Teen will continue with her national title: helping those with physical problems and disabilities “show other people what incredible people they truly are.”
She sounds like a pretty incredible person herself.

Good job, now this is a blonde I find impressive. As usual only a certain group in Anderson draw attention. Where's Leo? She's local.
