LAVONIA A bond hearing has been set for next month for 36-year old Raymond Daniel Thurmond.
Thurmond is accused of holding his family prisoner for three years. He was arrested last week and is being held in the Franklin County Detention Center, charged with four counts of child abuse in the first degree, rape, and five counts of false imprisonment.
Thurmond will appear before Superior Court Judge Lindsey Tise on Sept. 18.
Authorities say Thurmond held his wife and four children captive in a filthy, roach-infested trailer for at least three years. When found, investigators say the children were emaciated and had never been to school.
His wife claims Thurmond raped her.
Thurmond's attorney, Joel Shiver tells WLHR Radio his client denies holding his family against their will and said the whole story has not come out, but he declined to elaborate.
