Robert Gilbert of Anderson will be on Live with Regis and Kelly on NBC at 2 p.m. today.
The retired businessman signed up online to get a call to answer the show’s daily trivia question, and, if he’s a winner, collect an expensive prize. For Gilbert, the prize possibility was a trip to Naples, Fla., to stay eight nights at the LaPlaya Beach and Golf Resort.
Gilbert, 62, said he went online and registered daily for three weeks. Then the phone rang.
“I had just come back from the doctor one morning and the lady called,” he said.
Because he wasn’t feeling well after visiting the doctor, Gilbert said he was a bit “out of it” when Regis Philbin, the show’s host, came on and popped the question.
Still, he said he was ready.
“It was, ‘What movie did Julie Andrews win her first Academy Award for?’” Gilbert said.
He had 20 seconds to respond. It got down to five seconds, said Gilbert, who once operated the Gilbert Upholstery Service in Pendleton.
“He said a five-second warning,” he said.
The call was on July 16, and the answer — and whether Gilbert won — will be aired today, he said.
Stay tuned.
