Let's Do Lunch: Frodo's

STORY TOOLS

All too often, we don’t go somewhere new or different because we don’t know what to expect. That is where this new feature, “Let’s Do Lunch,” comes in. Each week, we will highlight a different spot for lunch that you can try. We will tell you about prices, atmosphere and anything else you need to know before showing up and chowing down. And if you have a place we should go, don’t hesitate to drop a line. It’s always lunchtime around here.

Frodo’s Pizza

1601 E. Greenville St., Anderson (next to Publix)

The last time I headed to a pizza joint with a buffet, I didn’t partake. This time, it seemed a shame to let another opportunity go by.

Frodo’s Pizza on East Greenville Street has recently changed ownership and management, but the style remains the same: quality pizza pies and a buffet that keeps people coming back for more.

This week, it was necessary that Frodo’s buffet be given a chance because, well, I was hungry, needed a quick meal and wanted some pizza.

There is nothing to hitting the lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. everyday at Frodo’s. Walk in, pay your $7.29 (that includes pizza buffet, salad bar and drink) and hit your table. Grab your pizza, get a bite, watch some of ESPN’s SportsCenter or news coverage on their TVs and hit the road.

Bing, bang, boom.

They usually put out between four and six different pies on a given afternoon, including some chocolate chip cookie pies for dessert. The basics are covered like pepperoni, sausage, supreme and cheese and they throw in things like thin-crust bacon or a honey mustard and grilled chicken pizza to keep you guessing. It all stays pretty hot and fresh and they make a fine pie down Frodo’s way.

Plus, it’s a fast lunch that gets you in and out if you and the family or the co-workers are in a hurry.

They take cash and credit/debit cards, but don’t try to whip out the checkbook, cause they ain’t having it. Also, don’t be too quick to grab the leftover pizza you’re not in the mood for. Even though it’s manager’s choice on what comes out, they are open to suggestions and are very good about keeping things stocked.

Not a bad way to spend 45 minutes and still get back before the boss notices.
