Parties should pay, not people

STORY TOOLS

Why do the taxpayers have to pay for political conventions?

The Democratic and Republican parties will get $16 million in subsidies (welfare) from the taxpayers of this country to help pay for their national conventions. And that is on top of the $50 million the conventions will get for “security.” I don’t see why I have to pay for other people’s political rallies. The Democrats and Republicans have already chosen their candidates (in primary elections also paid for by the taxpayers) so the conventions are nothing but a party for fat cats and a TV commercial.

I am a Libertarian and my party picks its candidate by convention without any tax money, then as a taxpayer I have to help pay for other parties’ conventions and campaigns. Why?

It is time to end welfare for political parties and let them pay their own way.

Doug Taylor, vice chair, Anderson County Libertarian Party

The option to donate to political campaigns without it affecting the returns should not even be offered on the 1040 or any other tax forms

Just another reason most politicians will not even acknowledge the FAIR TAX. (It's all about power and control over you the taxpayer)
