Dear Food,
You know I love you. I am very appreciative of the time we spend together. You have been an essential part of the most cherished memories of my life: every holiday, special occasion, get-together or social event. It is not overstating the situation to say I cannot live without you.
Recently, our relationship has not been as healthy as it should be. I find myself anxious to spend time with you between our regularly scheduled engagements. Sometimes, I have to sneak to be with you, because I am afraid others will see how our relationship has deteriorated. The unwholesome aspects of our bond are the ones getting the most attention, and it is time for a change.
Therefore, I have decided we should spend some time apart. It should not be a long period of time, because I definitely could not live my life without you. However, it should be long enough to gain a better respect and appreciation for our link.
Experts on our type of relationship agree, saying that a little separation will not hurt and can actually promote a better relationship. Even though we have lost sight of it in the pace of our 21st century life, traditionally this sort of separation was a custom and conducted at regular intervals during life. Many traditional cultures still practice these partings as an accepted way to achieve physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual cleansing.
Do not worry. I am taking all of the proper precautions. There are many resources available on the Internet on conducting this experiment. They not only provide guidelines for safety, they also give advice on how to maximize the positive results. In the end, I hope that this time I spend for myself will help me form a better, healthier relationship with you.
Love,
Brandon
