All too often, we don’t go somewhere new or different because we don’t know what to expect. That is where this new feature, “Let’s Do Lunch,” comes in. Each week, we will highlight a different spot for lunch that you can try. We will tell you about prices, atmosphere and anything else you need to know before showing up and chowing down.
And if you have a place we should go, don’t hesitate to drop a line. It’s always lunchtime around here.
Keith Street Pub and Grille
101 Keith St., Clemson; 864.654.2274
If you have the time and patience to battle the student traffic and clustered College Avenue in downtown Clemson, then there is a place that is worth grabbing a bite.
Keith Street Pub and Grille is, appropriately, on Keith Street and remains a popular lunch spot for employees and students alike. The building is spacious, it’s well-lit for a place with “pub” in the name and it carries one of the largest lunch selections this side of just about any downtown eatery.
Keith Street Pub could be missed if you don’t look for it. Take College Street from S.C. 93 and turn right on Keith Street. On the left sits this discreet lunch spot featuring huge windows, outdoor seating and a great selection of brews and sandwiches.
From the menu, you can get just about anything. They have seven or so salads, wraps for the lighter side of things, grilled chicken and deli meat options as well as classics like a French dip and Rueben.
For some reason, I have been on a club sandwich kick for the last few months and couldn’t resist theirs. My friends on this trip also went for the club and the grilled chicken sandwich, respectively and both were pleased enough to scarf the whole thing down.
Most everything comes with fries, though chips and other sides are available upon request. The dining area is huge, so seating is not an issue and with the Clemson ban on smoking, you don’t have to worry about cigarette smell wafting your way.
It’s clean, it’s bright and it has a certain ambiance that makes you want to hang around a little longer at lunch.
And at around $7 to $8 for a full lunch, the price works out nice.
