Oconee Democrats ask for cell phones for soldiers

STORY TOOLS

— The Oconee County Democratic Party is asking area residents to make a donation and help soldiers stationed overseas speak to their families back home.

More than 150,000 troops are serving overseas and are away from their families. Cell Phones for Soldiers and the Oconee County Democratic Party are calling on all Americans to support those in military service by donating unused cell phones.

The Cell Phones for Soldiers effort aims to collect more than 50,000 cell phones nationwide.

During the South Carolina Apple Festival in Westminster on Sept. 5-6, community members can donate old cell phones at the Democratic Party booth on Main Street.

Or people may drop off cell phones at the Democratic Party headquarters at 685-A U.S. 123 Bypass in Seneca across from Applebee’s from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“We are proud to show our support for U.S. soldiers and to contribute to a worthy cause like Cell Phones for Soldiers,” said Oconee County Democratic Party Chairman Ken Campbell.

For more information, call Campbell at (864) 784-9075.
