ANDERSON Divine intervention appears to have been at work Thursday when a piece of art was returned to an Anderson church after the $400 painting of Jesus Christ was taken from a prayer room.
According to city of Anderson police, the theft was reported at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church at 1821 White St.
Church officials told police that minutes after the theft a man entered the church “with painting in hand and said, ‘We don’t steal from the church,’ and left,” Officer Donald Cabral wrote in the incident report.
Officials did not as of Friday afternoon know the identity of the person who took the painting.
