STORY TOOLS

He is the best in all of us. He represents strength and courage and an ability to do the right thing. And he does it all while wearing green tights.

He is Robin Hood, and this weekend the Christian Youth Theatre of Anderson presents the story of Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Friar Tuck and the Sheriff of Nottingham, in full musical glory.

Directors Meagan Gregory and Miranda Hudson have taken a cast of 50 students ages 8 to 18 and put them together for four days of performances, starting tonight at the Merritt Theater at Anderson University.

Robin Hood is the tale of a rag-tag group of ne’er-do-wells who rise up against oppression and taxation under the rule of King John and his enforcer, the Sheriff of Nottingham. The hero, alongside Little John and rest of his merry men are out to redistribute the wealth the king has accumulated. He does it by robbing the king at every turn and giving that money back to the people of England.

This retelling, however, has some new twists and turns, including new characters and a musical score performed by the expansive cast.

The curtain will rise tonight at 7 p.m.; other performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. For reservations or more information, call 864.224.7266 or go online to www.cytanderson.com.
