HARTSVILLE — Sonoco, a diversified global packaging company based in Hartsville, S.C., said it will permanently close its Montreal, Quebec, Canada, uncoated recycled paperboard mill, effective Aug. 27.
The mill, located at 50, rue des Seigneurs in Montreal, has the capacity to produce 48,000 tons annually of primarily heavy-weight coreboard that has been principally used for the company’s internal converting operations. The plant closure will impact 53 employees.
Following the closure, Sonoco will operate 23 paper mills and 33 paper machines globally.
