NewSpring Church will open a new campus in Greenville on Sunday with services at 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. at 401 Roper Mountain Road, near I-385.
The building for NewSpring Greenville, a former BI-LO grocery store, has been transformed into a 60,000 square-foot facility complete with a 1,200-seat auditorium, an area for children and a coffee shop in the atrium.
“We are thrilled God led NewSpring Church to open this new work in Greenville,” Howard Frist, campus pastor for NewSpring Greenville, said in a statement. “We expect tremendous growth and are looking for more than 1,000 people to attend our first service Sunday.”
NewSpring Greenville will have a live band that will lead worship each Sunday and Perry Noble, NewSpring senior pastor, will teach the messages live via video.
NewSpring Church began eight years ago as a small bible study meeting on the campus of Anderson University. Today, the church’s services average more than 8,000 people each Sunday. NewSpring is opening a second live-via-video campus in Florence in September. For more information visit www.newspring.cc or call (846) 226-6585.

This dude is gonna be bigger than Jim Jones if this keeps up.
Is Perry gonna serve poison Koolaid?
My question is, how much money does this guy and his wife stuff in their off shore bank accounts each week. I ask someone a while back that attends NewSprings what the pastor salary was and he claims it’s not published information for church members.
in response to Scratch
That was always the way it was in the church I attended.
Maybe someone else that's a member at NewSprings will shed a little more light on this subject.
True or not
Well.....I thought we'd have been bombarded by members of the "church" for making the Jim Jones references. Maybe they've been "asked" not to read AIM anymore.
I'm just wondering why the egomanical "preacher" isn't letting another person preach at the new site?? I mean a Lot of churches branch out - but to pipe the sermon in via satellite ?? isnt pride one of the SEVEN DEADLY SINS??? he is so full of himself that it makes me sick.
As a bystander (I don't attend Newspring) I am observing petty small negative people taking shots at someone who has worked hard and built a ministry that many approve of.
Please add some of your accomplishments with your snide comments. God Bless
Obviously Perry isnt paid too much - he was only able to afford a $475,000 home in Jan 2007
ticadphil:
Jim Jones worked hard and built a ministry.
Those 8,000 people who attend Perry's services are the ones supporting him and providing his salary. Obviously not any of you...so what's the concern?
Who cares if he is "filthy" rich! He worked and built this church and now he is reaping the benefits. Good for him! God intends for his people to be blessed!!
And sin is sin!
Many have been led to Christ thru Newspring's ministry and that is a wonderful thing. I do believe that Perry Noble enjoys pushing the envelope to draw attention to himself. I hope that his congregation is truly following God and not this MORTAL MAN.
in response to mommy08
If Pastor Noble wants the attention drawn to himself, then he is in the wrong business. Pastors aren't the ones who need attention, it is Jesus that we need to focus on.
in response to clemson_girl
If he wants attention then obviously he is in the right business since he has the attention of approximately 8000 people every Sunday.
in response to Scotch
This made me laugh out loud...hard! :)
I hear all kinds of things about Newspring but I don't know how many of them are true. If a member of the congregation would answer here maybe some things could be cleared up for us.
Do they not have have weddings or funeral service there?
Patient visitation?
Armed people at the door?
Can't see your kids in Sunday school?
If one gets up to go to the bathroom can they return to their seat?
The minister's salary is really secret?
They spent several hundred thousand on a sound system?
No cross?
I've got many more but just these for now. I agree bringing people to Jesus is a main goal but a lot of questionable characters and churches that have done this but have ended up bad.
why don't you go and find out for yourself!!!!!
As far as the salary thing, don't forget that his wife is a doctor. They both have worked very hard for what they have.
I believe a $475,000 house is probably the norm for doctors.
I'm not a member of the church, and I have never been there, but I think Perry and his wife get way too much criticism.
in response to Niblits
I am willing to answer some questions.
No, our sanctuary is not set up for weddings and funerals.
I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure that we have pastors that take care of the congregation should they be hospitalized.
Armed people? That's a definite no. We have greeters at the doors that will gladly open them for you.
We have a children's ministry during the services, not after. So you and your children get ministered at the same time.
For courtesy and noise reasons, you are asked that should you leave the auditorium after the speaker begins the message that you enjoy the remainder of the service in the atrium.
I don't need to know Perry's salary. It's none of my business.
Sound system? You should come hear it, it's awesome.
Our Anderson campus building is in the shape of a cross.
I prefer to have my daughter, who is of age to it and be respectful of others, ministered in the same room with my wife and I.
If you want to hear someone in Anderson that preaches the TRUTH without compromise, go hear Bro. Ken Whitt at Bible Baptist Church. Where Jesus is magnified and NOTHING is STAGED. If you want to see a show, go to the Bi-lo Center in Greenville.
"For courtesy and noise reasons, you are asked that should you leave the auditorium after the speaker begins the message that you enjoy the remainder of the service in the atrium."
How much noise could a person that has to go to the bathroom make in a church that holds thousands?I attend a small church and if people have to go to the bathroom they do so quietly.
I may see someone walk to the bathroom but I certainly don't hear them.
I'm pretty sure that a church as large as New Spring has a sound system that would drown out any possible "noise" that someone could make on the way to the bathroom.
in response to Karly1013
Thank you Karly. I appreciate your answers. :-)
Remember, any publicity is good publicity in the world of entertainment.
I am a member at NewSpring and I have been in church all my life. I have NEVER heard anything preached there that is not based on the Bible. Those of you who are curious, stop by sometime. Ask the Homeland Park Elementary School how they like the new playground that Newspring built. Ask the kids at Homeland Park how they like their new shoes and jackets they received last winter -- every kid in the school. NewSpring makes a difference in the Anderson community and that scares some people.
Since the moment Jesus Christ ascended up to heaven to be beside the Father and his message was carried throughout the world, there has been a constant backlash. Anytime the kingdom of God is being expanded, there will be envy, jealousy, hatred, mockery, and all forms of resistance. Satan and the almighty egos of the human race always see to it. But thankfully those forces can't stand in the way of The Lord's work. What's wrong with religion in this country, state, and town is it has not evolved as society has evolved. For those of you who want Newspring to be like an "old time religion" church that you are used to...just stick with your services and continue to see very little done in this community and in God' kingdom...just sit back and judge and mock the familiar few members of your congregation as you've done for decades. Comforting, ain't it???
Beatlesnbaseball talks alot like Perry Noble. Is it or are you just one of his followers?
No, 'fraid not. But I do attend services there. Perhaps I sound like Perry because he is a knowledgable Christian and so am I. Jesus told us to spread his gospel throughout the world. Do you consider going through the same old routine in these ho-hum never get involved or "make a splash" churches spreading it? I've seen confessed drug addicts & prostitutes give their life to Christ & get baptised at New Spring. What other backwoods, judgmental, "we don't wantcha if you don't act/look/dress like us" church out there would accept someone like that who has made such bad choices but needs salvation? People at Newspring don't "follow Perry" like you uninformed folks think they do. They follow Christ and are deeply moved when the gospel is not only preached but in motion in our community. For you critics out there who claim to be believers, does it truly get under your skin that THOUSANDS of regular people right here in the upstate are excited about worshipping??? "Oh my gosh they play electric guitars!" "The preacher wears blue jeans!!" ETC, ETC. Who cares if they discharge fireworks in the sanctuary if people are accepting seats at The Almighty's Table? Keep mocking this unbelievable movement for The Son of God right here in our backyard if you are a non-believer. God made you and gave you the freedom to mock Him if you wish. But if you attend Backwoods Baptist Church and join your pastor or fellow members in mocking Newspring and their undeniable outreach to the lost of the upstate, I wouldn't wanna be in your shoes come Judgment Day. And as far as Perry's salary goes...who cares and so be it. God holds men of the cloth more accountable than any other. If Brother Noble is making it rich or in it for the fame or what have you, woe be unto him as well. All I know is Jesus Christ is at work within those walls and within those who choose to accept their message - which by the way comes straight from the Word of God every single service. If it didn't, I'd steer clear I assure you. Come find out for yourself.

she WAS a doctor - she quit her pratice whwen Perry started raking in the money
in response to beatlesnbaseball
"if you attend Backwoods Baptist Church..."? Why did you reference that particular denomination? Just curious.
Ok folks lets do the math. About 8,000 in attendance every Sunday, right? Since it's a diverse crowd, let's say the average attender makes $500.00 per week. And then they do AS THE WORD OF GOD - YOU KNOW THE HOLY BIBLE - instructs them to do, and they give a tithe - 10% of their earnings every week to the church. 8,000 X $50 is $400,000. Now we all know that there are quite a few who don't tithe and probably 2,000 of those in church are kids under 18 with no dough to give. So maybe they get $50,000 - $100,000 every Sunday. Who knows. All we know is that's a lot of loot. Do you expect Perry, who has preached 4 sermons a Sunday with untold days and hours of preparation to be compensated like a cashier at Family Dollar??? "Well, where does all that money go???" you ask. Ask the kids living in poverty at Homeland Park Elementary. Ask the single, meal to meal struggling mothers who have been given to generously on Mother's Day. Ask the elderly lady who had to haul in her adult handicapped son every week until she got a van that would hoist his wheelchair. Ask the hundreds of Newspring kids - THE FUTURE OF THIS COMMUNITY - who are down at Panama City, FL as we speak being lead to Christ this very moment, which by the way cost the church about half a million dollars out of pocket. Ask the 1st time visitor who is amazed by the music & sound system or the visitor with bad eyesight who can watch the message on the big screens. Ask the lost who were plunged into the baptism waters at room temperature when it was 30 degrees outside. A large church with thousands of attenders/members who faithfully give tithes will mathematically have a lot of funds, people. Or should we give to The SC Education Lottery that lures you in on promises of a big payday? Nah, Almighty God said Jesus is my Son, the church is his wife, everything I've ever given you is my blessing to you and therefore mine not yours, and all I ask is for 10% to expand my kingdom and spread my undying love to one and all. If Perry or Newspring are using faithful believers' money for their own gain, you the critical cynic need not worry. Vengeance is mine said God. Come see what they do with the money before you rush to judgment.

Sorry if "Backwoods Baptist" offends. When I was a kid, my dad left my mom and she, I, and my sister attended one of the largest and most prominent churches in this town. We were asked to leave because the didn't want "ungodly" single mothers there. That would never happen at Newspring. As a 30 year church attender right here in Anderson, it has been my experience that most - not all - churches in this community are quick to judge, quick to close their doors to the under dressed & sinners of the world, (who by the way need Christ the most), and sad to say offended and envious when large crowds flock to where The Holy Spirit is at work instead of through their own holy doors.

How life got here is an understanding that is irrelevant, for odds are, life is energy and has always existed, and does not end.
Secular Science does not support this currently. The universe had a beginning and thus 'life' had a beginning.
As for the rest of your statements, perhaps you should re-exam what you 'think' you know.
I think the New Spring staff and congregation should be allowed to do and practice what they want. What I don't like is the fact that the place is tax exempt. I've always wondered if the church is paying for police to direct traffic or if the taxpayer is. It also seems odd that money is used for marketing schemes, such as the t-shirts used to advertise Christmas service. Again, though, that's their right. BUT, it makes me wonder why I don't hear or see what type of mission work or community service work the church is providing to my community through my tax dollars. That's my only beef. Practice whatever you want.
Perrys wife is a doctor, Im sure they had plenty of money well before he became pastor at Newspring. I would think everyone could just be happy that Newspring attracts some to go to church that were never interested before. Isnt that what its all about anyway? All churches try to get as many members as they can yet Newspring takes all the crap because they are accomplishing so much.
in response to mommy08
I have only been there a couple of times but he is a good preacher. I heard him say one time if anyone was coming there JUST to hear him preach and that they were in the wrong, something like that.
I heard if you cant give a certain amount of money then give up your seat to someone who can and also that they expect you to serve in the church in someway or leave. And I was told on here by a member during another article AIM had was no kids in the main church you gotta pee dont come back stay out and listen from there. No funerals there they dont have time to reset the stage for that they have to be done at another church chaple etc. No hospital visits by Mr Nobel he has people to do that for him no wedding either I guess these things are below him. But he can play hells bells in a "church service" I cant figure it out seems like a three ring circus all messed up.
in response to tdr1945
That's what he SAYS........
Have visited New Spring many times; not able to tithe at this church, but I have never been asked to relinquish my seat to a tither - laughable.
Perry preached exactly the same Biblically-based, riveting messages at North Anderson Baptist Church where he made a pittance. Money didn't matter then, doesn't now.
All kids at Homeland Park got new shoes and coats; more than $30,000 worth of toys collected by members and distributed at Christmas; recent concert provided $20,000 for three local charities; local single mother given a house on Mother's Day - two years in a row . . . . Shall I go on - there is much more.
1,000 volunteers per Sunday at work at New Spring. Most "big" (as in building) and "dead" Anderson Churches covet half that many attendees.
The green-eyed monster looms over New Spring. Many local pastors and congregations need to be looking internally to determine why their churches are dying, rather than spending so much time trying to analyze New Spring. The majority of members left dead churches for something alive and relevant.
When one attends New Spring - that's singular by the way - not Springs - one cannot help but witness the enthusiam of Christians gathering to worship. In most Anderson churches on Sunday morning, it's about as exciting as a funeral parlor.
Be excited that people are worshiping and enthusiastic about their faith. How can anyone who puts away petty things be anything but happy for this church?
Well you must have heard another service the person I spoke with stated that is was siaid if you csn give a certain amount you needed not come back so someone who can give can have your seat. Also a close family friend was so upset that she could not volunteer like the church requested they came to her house to find out why. Now you come to my house it better be a friendly visit or for prayer. Not demanding to know when an what I was going to be doing to help the church. And we get excited at our church we just dont have to listen ti AC/DC Hells Bells and have people jumping out of caskets. You know other church copied that. I pity people who had to witness that and had just lost a loved one that would have tramatized anyone in that time of loss they would have been mortified. I'll stay at my church and they can keep there ways at there church my kids learn whats important.

just watched across the universe the other day, awesome! did'nt really care for the beatles until this movie... totally changed my mind. the beatles are cool.
God honors His Word and it makes no difference who is using it. After all, God did use a jackass to get Balaam on the right path. So, I guess God can also use Perry Noble.
what newspring is doing in g,ville is nothing new. there are 100's of pastors across this country doing the same thing. some are larger and some are smaller than newspring.
when you have people driving a great distance, to come to church, why not plant a church where they live? (most churches here know's absolutely nothing about that) all of these pastors that do that have a campus pastor in each location that handles the day to day activities of the church and preach sundays via satalite.(most churches here would not understand that either..they're still stuck in the 60's..)
no i am not a attender of newspring. i have visited a couple of times and although i enjoy the sermons, there seems to be a disconnection between those in the seats and those on stage. everything is too rehersed with no freedom to step outside of what is on script.(typical baptist format..if its on paper you do it kinda thing.)
love the music and the band. no spontaneous worship. the hallaujah's, amen, "worship Hims" seem to all be scripted. more robotic than human. i have visited the different service times to see if anything was different...same ole same ole.
GOD IS GREAT

LET US THANK HIM FOR HIS LOVE

NewSpring staff purposely do not boast about what they do in the community. It is only when the greeen-eyed complainers say NewSpring does nothing for the community with "all that money" that it is necessary for people like myself to respond with factual information. I am not a NewSpring member, but I am very familiar with their generosity in our local community.
in response to beatlesnbaseball
Since when do you have to go to Panama City, Florida to find Christ?
in response to whatdidyousay
That's a perfectly valid question. You don't have to go to Florida to accept Christ. You can do it at your church, in your living room, standing in line at a buffet, in the woods, or anywhere else on earth. Jesus said "'Behold, I stand at the door (of your heart)and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me." It doesn't take a rabbi, priest, or a trip to Florida for anyone to accept Christ as their Lord. I can't speak for the exact reasoning behind why Newspring decided to take hundreds of young people on a trip to the beach, but this would be my guess: It's 2008, friend. We live in a fast food - give it to me now - entertain me or get out of my face kind of world. Kids need constant excitement or gratification to stay interested in anything because the way our society has evolved. Try dropping a kid off at the public library or a museum for several hours and see how they respond when you return. The point is, Newspring uses flashy tactics to get the attention of the young and old, and once they catch your eye, they deliver the message of Jesus Christ in a way you can understand and apply to your life. These days it requires a sledge hammer to get anyone's attention away from our televisions, internet, I-pods, cell phones, etc, etc. I'm sure they are having a ball in Panama City and when the activities wind down they are getting a heaping helping of the gospel. I've been on church activities myself like that in my youth, although it was to a bug infested cabin in the woods rather than a sunny Florida beach. Question there tactics if you must - it's your right - but in the end Newspring has one mission: lead souls to Jesus and his love for each one.
I have spent a couple of hours today watching and listening to a couple of the services at NewSpring. What I see is very shallow evangelism with a lot flare and very little substance. Singing without Godly reverence and preaching without power. Noble's sermons are like the Rio Grande River............long and dry! There seems to be a "spirit" in this church but it is as far away from holiness as a church can be. Jesus said.."If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me." The only thing I see being lifted is the appeal to the flesh and Perry Noble. God help us!
in response to elaineb
I attended a service there recently.
Mr. Noble did indeed say that if you weren't willing to tithe the 10% then you needed to give up your seat to someone who would.
I doubt very seriously that he would deny making that comment.
The only thing "laughable" to me personally is that you would hear your pastor say those words and not get out of your seat immediately, walk out the door and never look back.
I thought NewSpring was there to save souls. When I hear Mr. Parry make comments like that, I have to seriously wonder.
I recently saw a family wearing t-shirts stating,
"These are my church clothes, I go to NewSpring."
SO? The church I attend have people who wear jeans and t-shirts to church every Sunday. We don't have to advertise what to wear.
I agree with those who have said that NewSpring is so large, why would people getting up to go to the bathroom disturb others?
Look, in my opinion it is a little different to attend an individual church with a membership eight times the population of Iva, so NewSpring ain't for me. That said, the NewSpring Church and its members haven't violated MY commandment: "Never Mess With Another Man's Rhubarb". Other than causing minor traffic delays on Sundays, these folks haven't done anything to confront me, so to them I say, "Go in peace, so long as your interests don't conflict with my interests". Now, should these folks start calling the Catholic Church "the Great Satan" or come to my door and say I'm guilty of idol worship (as has happened before), then we will have a problem. One of the many great things about America is that nobody forces us to attend any church (at least until Kevin Bryant becomes President), so if people dig Noble's act, that's great.
If I could ask one thing of my friends who attend NewSpring it would be that one invitation to attend church with you is quite enough, thankyouverymuch. Please refrain from asking again and again and again. I have no problems with people of the Protestant persuasion, but I have chosen my faith and am not interested in exploring yours any further.
So, until they do something out of line, let's cut these folks some slack, shall we?
in response to Scotch
Uh-oh, so do I.
Wonder what color tryxie's eyes are?
in response to Scotch
Yes, it's as if the "Fab Five" were just meant to be. We just need to see what color tryxie's eyes are.
PS: drinks on me tonite. We are all headed to Chiefs around 8pm.
my only problem is that every time I have heard Perry on the news...he seems to be in his "profession" for the glory of Perry. he seems insincere in every single word he utters. quite frankly - the man gives me the creeps. Now - before y'all jump on the "hang tryxie from a tree" bandwagon...this is just my opinion.
and clemson_girl - my eyes are blue as well
ok, ok, ok. enough already. ive read through all of these comments and to be honest im quite sick. i am a member of newspring (not newsprings, get it right) and the comments made here about our church are not only wrong but completely rude. if you have all of these questions why dont you try going to our church! perry is an excellent guy! the best pastor, leader, and friend you could ask for! he does make his salary public along with all the other expenses for church! ive seen it!! he has nothing to hide! hes all about reaching people for JESUS! which is why we had to expand to greenville. if you hate this idea you're going to love it when the campus opens in florence! you people who go to church strictly for the "people" and the "business meetings" and the pews with your name on it are obviously going for the wrong reason! Jesus died for you on the cross, rose on the third day and you should be excited and ready to tell everybody! not worrying about things that dont matter like how much the pastors house cost! ok i feel better now.
Please note that I wasn't trying to be rude. I merely posted my point of view. Perry truly creeps me out. and -no- i do not go to a church that has assigned seating, nor for the company that they could provide...in fact you sort of hit upon exactly WHY i dont affiliate with ANY churches in this area. the people. In a nutshell...every single church that I have ever been to ( and I have been to quite a few...trying to find one where I felt like I belonged )
- is chock full of liars and hypocrites. And yes - i believe that includes Newspring - as I have personally met several who attend there regularly. And ALMOST every one of them seems to be a fraud. more concerned with getting a pat on the back and "RAD" music that was played which " didnt sound at all religious - it sounds like a rock concert ! "
then why not just go to a rock concert and quit pretending??
in response to tryxie
You aren't the first person I've heard say that Perry gives them the creeps. And I kinda feel that way too. But I hope we're all wrong.
SCRATCH - dont forget the old hymn living on a prayer by bon jovi and the classic highway to hell..clearly they dont research the lyrics very well
and mommy08 - i hope so too
in response to Scotch
ok you have to understand that the only reason they play those songs is because it absolutely has to do with the message. hells bells was played BUT not the lyrics, just the music and it was to set the stage for the message on HELL. duhh. if you attended you would know. every song (by themselves) may not be appropriate for church. BUT they all do in fact relate to the message. and re: the rock concert comment; our music does rock! and its all about JESUS! we are so filled with the Holy Spirit sometimes its unbelievable! you people make me laugh!
and i almost forgot.......every church DOES have its share of hypocrites. every one! but only God knows whats truly in someones heart. not you, or anyone else. which is really who you should be worrying about (yourself) not other people.
well, personally - I think God has steered me away from thoses places for a reason. Otherwise I wouldnt have felt so uneasy and I'd be just another sheep in the flock. I dont think God wants people to "settle" just so they can claim to be a part of a well known congregation. I dont think your belief system should be based on the popularity of the minister, how cool the music is or the fact that they have a light show . Being marked as cool or different doesnt mean that this is what God wants. the fact that Newspring has so many in the congragation doesnt mean that Perry's way is right. Jim Jones AND Charles Manson had lots of followers too. and so what if Perry can charm so many - so did Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy - both of whom went to church on a regular basis by the way.
I love God and his son...it's their fan club that I have a problem with.
Since we are the same age, Perry and I attended some of the same churches and events growing up in and around this area. I changed churches alot because I dated several women in the area...church going women.
Perry, attended, for all the right reasons...he was learning what was successful and what was not working in evangalism...presto whamo tadaa...jim jones and kool aid monday nights...and with the support of the baptist convention...
try capstone church, I know the pastor, he is modest, godly, and cares about each and every person and he likes to be called...grinch...and he doesn't do kool aid and he likes to laugh...at himself with and without help...the grinch...dave barfield... Will the man behind the curtain please stand up.
Sorry about that Noble, still want to get militant on a man of god? fist to the throat? I'll be your huckleberry.

I've heard a lot of good things about Gethsemane on Hwy. 81 S. but I've never been there.I'm not a member of a church but there are a couple that I enjoy going to.One is in Georgia but here in Anderson I really like the House of Prayer,a small pentecostal church on Evergreen St. The preacher is great and so is the singing, you can really feel the spirit there.
I was brought up Baptist and attended a pretty big church but it was like a fashion show. Women would look down their noses at those who weren't dressed to the nines and make rude comments.
Smaller churches seem to be friendlier and make you feel more welcome.
Keep looking, one day you'll find your church.
I know a lot of people that go to New Spring. You can't tell it during the week though. After their finished cursing and such they start talking about how wonderful the church is. I can't figure that one out.
in response to Scotch
so what?!! he might not be able to preach like perry. not many people can. stop fishing for stuff.
Why don't they put a church in Homeland Park to minister to those poor children they bought the shoes and coats for? Maybe it's because they can't afford to attend Newspring.
