James A. “Jay” Bruce, a 1998 graduate of T.L. Hanna High School, received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina on May 16. He also received his bachelor of science in microbiology from Clemson University in May 2002.

Bruce is participating in the Advanced Education for General Dentistry Residency at the Baylor College of Dentistry at the Texas A & M Health Science Center in Dallas, Texas. This program focuses upon taking participants to a higher level of experience in such disciplines of dentistry as oral medicine and pathology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, implant placement and restoration, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, orthodontics, and working with special needs, cancer and transplant patients.

Participants also receive formal training and certification in oral conscious sedation allowing for licensure upon returning to the state which they will practice dentistry. In addition, residents will gain knowledge in practice management techniques, which will enable them to be prepared to deal with acquiring, managing and coordinating different types of potential practice situations.

Upon completion of this one-year residency, Dr. Bruce plans to associate with Arthur L. Bruce DMD PA, Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Pendleton.
