Truck crashes in Anderson County after attempting to run from law

— A high-speed chase began about 1 a.m. Thursday in Williamston when the driver of a 1988 Chevrolet S-10 ran a stop sign and sped away from a routine traffic stop.

Anderson County Sheriff's Deputy J. J. Jacobs said he chased the pickup, which was operating without headlights or taillights, at speeds up to 80 miles per hour along Midway, Cherokee and Lockaby roads before the driver lost control, drove into a field and hit a tree, according to the incident report.

Jacobs said in the report that Tony McJunkin, 40, of Williamston had a stolen tag on the pickup truck. There was no immediate report on injuries suffered by McJunkin or a woman riding with him.

Charges facing McJunkin were not immediately known.

oh, i can name a few of the charges he should be charged with, like speeding, reckless driving, failure to stop for blue light, running a stop sign, driving too fast for conditions, stolen tag, probably no insurance, thats just a few.the only bad thing about this is if he has no past criminal record and goes to court, judge mattison will give him the chance to go into pre-trial intervention, which he has been doing in alot of his cases here lately.good old judicial system at work

Judge Mattison is a judge in the City of Anderson. He won't be hearing any of these charges.
