STORY TOOLS

Worry no more, mouse potatoes, your days of desperately searching for your favorite episodes of the prematurely-canceled “Veronica Mars” have come to an end. Or perhaps you never got around to seeing just how bad Lindsay Lohan’s “I Know Who Killed Me” was.

Either way, meet Surfthechannel.com, a video indexing tool that has organized thousands of television shows, movies, cartoons, music videos and documentaries for your viewing pleasure.

Surfthechannel.com is not another YouTube; all of their full-length videos are hosted in other locations. The site merely acts as an organizational tool to save you hours of searching and downloading by providing a list of programming that is just a click away.

The site is quite user friendly. You select the category of your desired content from the top navigational bar and titles appear instantly, all organized alphabetically with the number of episodes available, if applicable.

The television section currently has 1,907 shows (as of July 28) that have graced television screens over the past couple of decades. Available content includes 5 seasons of “21 Jump Street,” featuring a fresh-faced Johnny Depp, to 13 episodes of “Zoey 101,” starring America’s favorite teenage mother.Wrestling fans will be excited to discover 13 different WWE specials from Smackdown to WresteMania in the Sports section. Also in the section, you can catch the UK Breakdancing Championship 2005 World Finals or game one of the 2008 NBA finals when the Lakers put a smack down on the Celtics.

For those individuals who yearn to broaden their horizons, the documentary section features thousands of interesting, educational videos, including a couple dozen episodes of PBS’s NOVA series and Invisible Children, a documentary about child-militia in Africa.

It gets better — the movie section boasts thousands of films, including all 21 James Bond titles, all four Indiana Jones’ movies, and even films “The Dark Night,” “Mamma Mia” and “X-Files: I Want to Believe” which are still in theaters. Also available is “No Country for Old Men,” 2008 Oscar winner for Best Picture.

For Japanese animation lovers, 11 seasons of “Pokemon” and four different “Yu-Gi-Oh!” series’ are available in the anime section. The music section features music videos for hundreds of artists, including Shania Twain with 23 clips and “Weird-Al” Yankovic with 26.

Besides a plethora of content, there is a forum for avid entertainment enthusiasts to talk about their favorite shows or even debate politics and religion. Users may also request new programming they’d like to see on the site.

The site generally moves quickly, but because the videos are hosted elsewhere, the loading times may vary. For example, the Dark Knight, viewed almost 650,000 times thus far, took a few minutes to load, whereas Reno 911!’s episode 5.2 was rolling in moments.

Now that you’ve met, tonight, don’t worry about the remote that went missing — again. Plug in that laptop and settle in to an all-you-can-watch buffet of 30+ episodes of “The Hills.” (Don’t worry, your guilty pleasure is safe with me.)
