Tom Dobbins beat Charles Griffin in the Democratic primary for State District 8 House of Representative seat.
In the race for the South Carolina Senate District 4 Democratic primary, candidate Roger Odachowski led Leonardo Ortiz in Greenwood County, but support in Anderson County put Ortiz over the top.
Dobbins led Griffin 62 percent to 38 percent with only two precincts in Anderson left to report, precincts for which vote totals will be counted later this week, according to unofficial vote totals.
In November, the winner of the race will face incumbent Don Bowen, R-Anderson, in the general election.
Dobbins said he will regroup tomorrow and start planning his next steps.
“Well, we’ll meet in the morning with my group to put together my campaign strategy for the fall,” he said. “I want to thank my supporters and mainly my family …. They’ve done an excellent job.”
Griffin could not be reached for comment.

Odachowski had garnered 62 percent of the vote in Greenwood to Ortiz’s 38 percent. But with 79 of 81 precincts reporting in Anderson County, Odachowski trailed 226 votes to Ortiz 390 votes.
Ortiz said it was a good campaign and he looked forward to the fall.
His promised his campaign would be a clean one.
“I have nothing against the current senator, I just have different ideas” he said. “
Ortiz will face Billy O’Dell, R-Anderson, who has served as a South Carolina Senator since 1989, in the November general election.

I appreciate the support I received from Anderson Co. TRUE Democrats. They were the ones who really had the tough choice, since those who voted for me voted specifically for me, knowing full well that they were unable to participate in all the other races.
But they were also the ones who saw through the facades.
Being in Anderson County, my strategy was to concentrate on Anderson County first for the primary. I had tallied the numbers before even filing and figured my campaign strategy back then. I guess I had figured right in working to take Anderson County.
The other guy talked a good talk about being in touch with constituents and all, but it was talk.
In contrast, while I was out and about... actually being in real touch, literally (I was out shaking hands and meeting people face to face), folks said the same thing I had empirically observed... that they never saw him... he never bothered to get out and press flesh...
I really think I made a mistake in not showing up to the Greenwood Co. candidate's function held last week, but then, was it a mistake or not? I chose to stay in Anderson Co with my plan instead of deviation at the last minute. I may have lost Greenwood Co. because of that, but staying focused with my plan of campaigning heavily in Anderson Co. took me over the top.
The other guy's biggest mistake was when we finally had the forum on WRIX Radio's George Ducworth show. He showed how misinformed he was by his comments. His other mistake was the information he gave to print in the Independent Mail Voter Guide.
After those two things came out and about, I felt pretty confident, but as I said in my Blogs, I was not taking anything for granted and I kept pounding the pavement until 7:00 pm yesterday. I've heard frequently... "It's not over til the fat lady sings" and the fat lady was not going to sing in this opera until 7 pm June 10th.
Funny thing, the other guy must not be a very good sportsman. He never bothered to call or stop by and concede, though I was right around the corner from him last night. I'm guessing he must have got mad.
Again, I fully appreciate the support I was given by the TRUE Democrats of Anderson Co.
Now my focus will be on the general election, Nov. 4th.
Plain.
Simple.
Common Sense.
Capt. Leonardo Ortiz (USMM)
