STORY TOOLS

Myrtle Bishop and two of her remaining classmates and friends of the class of 1938 of Calhoun Falls High School met at Mama Penn’s restaurant on June 2 for a meal, fellowship and to reminiscent about “old times.” They are the three remaining members from a class of 15 who graduated on May 28, 1938.

They are Joseph M. “Joe” Martin of Anderson, Victor B. Milford of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Myrtle Broadwell Martin Bishop of Anderson.

Joe served in the National Guard and served three years in the European Theater. He has lived in Anderson since he was discharged.

Victor enlisted in the U.S. Navy soon after graduation. He was a pilot and a meteorologist during his service years. He lived in California several years and now resides in Sierra Vista.

Myrtle lived in Calhoun Falls most of her life until she remarried and moved to Ware Shoals in 1982. She was married to W.T. Martin (brother of Joe) from 1939 until his death in 1974. She married W.T. Bishop in 1982 and lived in Ware Shoals until November 2005. He died in April 2005. She moved to Anderson Place in Anderson where she resides.

The school will no longer be as it was since 1924. It will become a charter school as of August of this year, 70 years after they graduated.

Joe,who lives in Anderson, comes to visit Myrtle from time to time and he still drives.
