STORY TOOLS

Sometimes when you live someplace long enough, you realize you have missed certain obvious gems in the community. This especially comes up where local restaurants are concerned.

To fix those oversights, lunch often is the best time to find a place you haven’t yet eaten and “take the plunge” into the unknown. It might be good, it might be bad, but it will always be an adventure.

All too often, we don’t go somewhere new or different because we don’t know what to expect. That is where this new feature, “Let’s Do Lunch,” comes in. Each week, we will highlight a different spot for lunch that you can try. We will tell you about prices, atmosphere and anything else you need to know before showing up and chowing down.

And if you have a place we should go, don’t hesitate to drop a line. It’s always lunchtime around here.

Little Pigs Barbecue, 1401 N. Main St., Anderson; 864.226.7388

Little Pigs has been a staple of the Anderson barbecue scene for generations. It has a simple menu, a simple décor and a whole lot of food on the plate.

At Little Pigs, there is no table service. You walk to one of three windows, order and wait for them to call your name. But first you have to find what they have. There is a giant menu on the wall, but it’s just as easy to scan the to-go menus they have at each ordering window.

Just remember that whatever you get, it’s going to come in huge portions.

For barbecue, they only do chopped pork. You can get it with or without the bun and regular or jumbo. Even the largest of appetites have trouble finishing off a jumbo sandwich, so beware.

The rest is pretty straightforward. Little Pigs offers burgers, steak, chicken fingers, fish, shrimp and even salads. To drink, it’s iced tea, lemonade or water from behind the counter or, if you want a soda pop, grab some change and head to the vending machines around the corner.

Little Pigs likes to put pickles are everything from its slaw to its salad. It sounds strange, but just add it to the barbecue sandwich if you don’t want them. The restaurant doesn’t take credit cards but does accept checks. The place is large, and there is no smoking on the premises. And at noon, it has a steady flow of customers, but nothing that will make you wait 45 minutes for your food.

Price range: $2.50 to 7.50.

Little pigs has the best BBQ sandwiches in town, HANDS DOWN!!! I had a jumbo sandwich from there last Saturday & it was GREAT!!!

Flash, I don't think that group was invited by the Little Pigs owner, and I can't immagine a restaurant turning down a large group. I will not do any business with any one that I know who advertises on Rick is Wrong show. I have never heard of Little Pigs advertising with them. If they do, please let me know and I won't go back in there.
But until then....lets have some BBQ.

I personally could care less what political views he may have. Little Pigs knows how to feed a person. NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, in Anderson can touch their BBQ. Matter of fact.......I think I may have to make a trip there today...kinda got a little hungry thinking about it.

Love Little Pig's. Great food at a great price.

Now, go check out Grace's, I think it's over on Highland Ave, they have an excellent Chicken Club sandwich.

Got to agree about the chicken clubs at Grace's. Been having them for many years. However on the way down there the other day we pulled in to Moe's for my first time and had delicious chicken quesadillas.

Hee hee, love your comments Guy. Some folk's reasoning is kind of scarey isn't it? :-)

h-ll its plain and simple people if don;t like what hear when you walk in the door order takeout and go back home to your tv and recliner love your comments guy keep them coming

Rick Driver can eat there all he wants. His views and those of his followers are not going to dictate my choices.

And it won't stop me from going to Little Pigs, either!!!
