Two inmates steal Anderson County Deputy cruiser

STORY TOOLS

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office says two women have been caught after being accused of stealing one of their cruisers Wednesday night.

The incident started at the Dollar Tree on the 28 Bypass. Deputies arrived on a shoplifting call. There were two suspects being sought, and a few minutes later, deputies had both in custody. They were handcuffed and put into a patrol car.

The deputy then took them back to the Dollar Tree and was outside the vehicle talking with the manager when one of the women kicked in the cage, got into the front seat, and drove off. They abandoned the car near Monitor and Auburn Drive. They went to a local home and asked "for a ride," but deputies soon arrived and they took off.

Both women were caught around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night in the Monitor Road near the Hwy 28 Bypass. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office plans to hold release more details Thursday morning.

Give me a break. Why is it that deputies always get the blame for what stupid people do. Do you honestly think the deputy knew the thief would get thru the little window. And it being election year, who cares, why should something a studip thief does have anything to do with the sheriff's election. Not only ACSO but other counties leave their cars running also. Maybe before people speak they should try doing this job. Too bad they couldn't refuse to help those that put them down. These are underpaid very hard working individuals and everyone should realize this.

i agree with you completely way- to- go. it isnt the fault of law enforcement that we have stupid people running around. all sheriff and deputies do their best.

If I am not mistaken, I think they have to leave their cars running.

You just said a mouthful and you are 100% right. I feel sorry for that deputy right now. He had no way of knowing they were going to do that and it is not his fault that they did it. It wasn't like he walked off and left the car running, he was right beside it and did everything he was supposed to do. Those women had alot of guts to do that and was stupid enough to think they wouldn't get caught. Way to go deputies! Thank you for risking your lives everyday to save us from STUPID people.

To all of those who like to be critical of the deputies, Crenshaw, and anyone in his department:

I would like to see you do their job better. It is real easy to make negative comments when you are not the one putting your life on the line to protect law abiding citizens from stupid people and criminals.

Only someone from Homeland Park would steal from the Dollar Tree.

Thanks to all those who agree. May you all be protected from the negative and stupid people in this county :O)

Very good point. It is really easy for someone to sit back and judge when they are not the one doing the work.. It seems like we have alot of wanna be sheriffs and wanna be deputies in Anderson...

Another one for "America's Dumbest Criminals" Did they not think they would be caught in a POLICE CAR? Wonder if they were wearing tube tops ~LOL~

You might be a redneck if you have ever been arrested for stealing a police cruiser after already being arrested for shoplifting.

Amen sister!! Poor deputy. Bet he breathed a sigh of relief when he found his car and the women. I feel for these guys and gals out here serving an ungrateful public. Yes, I think the S.O. needs to start a list of all the ingrates and the next time they call in needing help from the people they trample on, they need to be ignored and work it out themselves. Let them bury their dead and lick their own wounds for a while. Maybe they'll get a new appreication of what these officers are faced w/ day after day. And we expect them to go home to their families w/ smiles on their faces and praise in their hearts. Why? for being under paid and trashed at every turn?? Police officers have my respect and my thanks!!

I was making a funny cuz it reminded me of what I saw on COPS! My gosh... I am entitled to my opinion and I happen to think A: Dumb to steal period let alone from a Dollar Tree. B: Maybe she thought she'd make it worth it to go to jail cause C: Dumb to leave car running with known thieves in it. Sorry if this offends you all but it is my opinion. Not saying he's a complete idiot just saying he made a dumb decision. Happens to even the best of us from time to time. And I rest my case on past comments I have made about being law enforcment doesn't make you smart or perfect. And if they don't like their pay or getting berated about the way they handle things then let 'em find another line of work. I'm sick of people getting upset whenever someone points out the truth about cops when they do things that some of view as stupid. ANd I wish a cop would refuse me help. It's their JOB! And I will say what a want about a cop that my tax dollars (that I too work hard for in order to pay every year) are feeding, be it good or bad. I hope none of ya'll ever need a cop and get a smarta@@ that doesn't take what you say serious. Not all cops are bad and not all are good. This one in my opinion done a dumb thing. By the way the news said that she kicked the cage down then crawled in front and took off with handcuffs on, if he was standing right beside the car, didn't he hear the noise that would have made and couldn't he have responded fast enough to stop her? Seems like all that transpired had to have taken a couple of minutes allowing him time to stop it... if he was standing beside the car.

Posted by usmc96 on May 8, 2008 at 4 p.m.

Cut their hands off. Then they wouldn't steal anything else.

Posted by lynfo25 on May 8, 2008 at 4:04 p.m.

PS... Respect is a 2 way street. It goes both ways. If you respect me then you'll get the same. Being a cop does not mean you automatically get respect. It is earned. I know a lot of good cops get mistreated and misread. But most of that (not all) is due to the bad ones. It only takes one time for a person to encounter a bad cop and it can change the way people feel about all of them. And I don't think anybody said anything wrong or bad about this cop. Only that he wasn't thinking straight. What's so wrong and disrespectful about that. Hell everybody has moments when they don't think straight.

Posted by lynfo25 on May 8, 2008 at 4:10 p.m.

PSS... the news stated it was people in the neighborhood they fled to and the news crew that actually caught them and held them until the cops got there. So ...... not saying nothing else. Don't want to get anybody bent out of shape over me giving my opinion.

Posted by pink_panther on May 8, 2008 at 4:46 p.m.

in response to lynfo25

They were women in handcuffs how hard do you think they were to "catch". I doubt very seriously that the news crew was even there at that time. As soon as that deputy called in and told them what happened I bet every cop in the area was in hot pursuit. It wasn't like they could go far in handcuffs and the only thing the people in the neighborhood did was to call the deputies and let them know where the woman was that was asking for a ride in handcuffs. The deputies did the rest.

Posted by lynfo25 on May 8, 2008 at 6:38 p.m.

Channel 7 was there and got the one woman cornered and held her until the cops got to where she was at. And that was my point....they were in handcuffs ....how hard could it have been with him "standing right beside the car" to have stopped them. And come on they are thieves shoplifting at a Dollar Tree. That says a lot about where their standards are, I mean if they are willing to risk going to jail over dollar stuff then they evidently don't care one way or the other. This deputy put others at risk by leaving criminals in his running vehicle unsupervised. They could have wrecked and killed someone. If that had happened everyone would have a differnet opinion on his judgement. Why let it take something that drastic to open some eyes on how incompetent some officers are. I am sure I am not the only one here that feels this way. Maybe some just don't wanna' get belittled for saying their peace on this issue. But I don't care what ya'll think. What makes some of you think that what you think is always right? My opinion is just as good as yours. And by the way, what does them being women have to do with anything???? Had they been "men in handcuffs" would they have been harder to catch?

Cops pay taxes too so lets all shut up about your hard earned dollars paying their salary. Lynfo, I don't think you offended anybody. I agree w/ everything you've said.
