Georgia Department of Labor officials have reported a 5 percent unemployment rate for the state for April, a rate that is down two-tenths of a percent from March.
Early information also shows that Georgia gained 5,300 payroll jobs between March and April.
Despite the drop, the rate was up one percent from the 4 percent reported in April 2007. The state’s April unemployment rate is two-tenths of a percent higher than the national rate. Data also have shown a rise in unemployment insurance claims in Georgia.
