Higher education in South Carolina not so high

STORY TOOLS

When you want to get a higher level of education you look at what the success of the education process is in colleges and universities. President James Barker of Clemson University says CU is ranked 27th in the nation, however if you look in U.S. News and World Report 2008 Edition on Undergraduate Schools (p82) you find Clemson University peer-ranked at 67th.

A look at the graduate schools records for success at the graduate level often is an indicator of the success at the undergraduate level. If you look in the U. S. News and Word Report on America’s Best Graduate Schools 2009 Edition you will find the report evaluates 1,500 various areas of graduate study. All of the ACC schools except Clemson University are ranked in some area of expertise. For example in Engineering, Georgia Tech is ranked 4th. The University of Maryland is 17th, Virginia Tech is 28th, North Carolina State University is 30th, Duke University is 35th and the University of Virginia is 38th. Clemson only gets mentioned in the engineering, business and education sections as offering graduate level education. A number of other South Carolina colleges and universities are barely ranked. The U.S. News and World Report on Education makes you ask yourself, what is going on in the education process in the colleges and universities of South Carolina?
