flash i agree... this town is becoming " if you want somethin done do it yourself"
its sad when you cant even drive down the road..

Agreed Flash. I live near that intersection and a couple of weeks ago I heard gun shots on Clemson Blvd. near there. I would have thought this area would be one of the safest. I'm assuming gang bangers so our Gang Task Force needs to hustle up as things are getting out of hand.

The right to protect has went the way of many of our rights we use to have as Americans. We are trained to think of the government as our protector and provider.

Thank god I have mt CWP. I NEVER would have dreamed this would happen in that area!! Ya'll are right, it's only gonna get worse! I will protect myself, family, property, by ANY means necessary!

I use to believe firearms in my home was a danger until I live to be 38 years old to have two young african americans hold a gun to my head. I believe in my right to bear arms! BTW... It's LOADED and I will BEAR it!

It is refreshing to see so many people supporting the right to protect yourself. I highly recommend CWP to anyone and I also encourage current CWP holders to follow the plight of bill 3212 currently on committee in Columbia. The house passed the bill as written and it would give current SC CWP holders the right to carry in many other states. The senate amended the bill, completely ruining the point of the bill, the house rejected the senate's version and now it it on committee. Contact your representatives and let them know how you feel.

Carry not because you are scared, but because you are informed and refuse to ignore the crime problems in the world today.

The right to carry is given by the state which you travel to NOT SC. It's called reciprocity. Unfortunately SC doesn't reciprocate with GA. One of the best and most recognized CWP's is Florida's. You can even get one if you don't live there. Check out usacarry.com. Don't depend on AIM misinformation.

JP, you are correct somewhat. The Bill I mentioned would actually adjust the requirements south carolina enforces on other states in order for SC recognize that states CWP and grant reciprocity with that state. Currently the law is worded that another state has to have CWP licensing requirements equal to those of SC, which is some of the most strict in the nation. By this I mean another state has to require background check, 8 hour training class, range demonstration etc just as SC requires for SC to honor their CWP. All states require background checks, but some states do not require the 8 hour training class, or have a 6 hour class, or require some other demonstration of firearm proficiency such as involvement with a local shooting club etc.

Bottom line, if SC would adjust the law so that we can recognize more states CWP's, we would in turn gain reciprocity with those states.

You're right unregistered. As a side note, the almighty Corp of Engineers in GA are saying that the newly expanded right to carry in GA does NOT extend to THEIR parks and boat ramps.

ugh, good ole' Corp of Engineers.

At least I can carry in Applebees in GA now. Perdue just signed a law yesterday allowing CWP holders to carry into a restaurant that serves alcohol as long as they are not drinking. I wish SC would get on board with that.

SUGAR29625:

It's good to see that you are alright after that unfortunate incident!

JP and UNREGISTERED:
It's great to see people comment in these posts that KNOW the facts!

We as people of this community NEED to show these "thugs" that we are mad as hell and are not going to take it anymore!! I hate to make an "example" out of someone but, if I were stopped at a light and someone tried to carjack me(or worse), I AM going to protect myself,my unborn child,my vehicle, and my husband(don't tell him, but I am a better shot than he is,HA)if that means using my gun..so be it!! God bless you all!
It's also a good idea to support the NRA, to protect our 2nd ammend. and because they(NRA) will send you the latest info on any changes in any state in re: to each states gun/CWP laws. I know this info is on the internet but, for $25 a year, you can help protect the 2nd ammend. as well as get free up to date info.

Seeing as some of these thugs think their bullet wound scars and incarceration time are some kind of right of passage and something to be proud of maybe CWP and self protection is the answer.

For SC it's AR, ID, IN, KY, MI*, MT, UT, WY.

Ladies and gentlemen may I point you to a few websites on concealed weapon permits.

http://www.scfirearms.org/
http://www.usacarry.com/

If anyone is interested in obtaining their permit there is an instructor in Anderson who will be more than willing to help you. The class lasts 8 hours, takes a Saturday to complete, and costs around $65. Once you have done that then mail in your information to the state. Below is his website. I have no affiliation with him whatsoever, just found him to be helpful when I obtained my permit.

guy, the state you are thinking of is New Hampshire. I have my "Non Resident Pistol Permit" for the state of NH. It added quite a few states for me included GA. Minus Fl, between my SC and NH permit I am pretty well covered for anywhere I am likely to be traveling.

Excellent discussion guys!

I forgot to add +1 for David at www.sccwpclasses.com The material taught in the CWP class is pretty slow and boring, but he does a nice job of making it as interesting as the material allows.

Also, here is the link for the $20 NH permit.

sugar29625,you tell em gurl and I'm right behind you w/ my 12 ga. pump I got for my birthday.Shoot ask questions later...........

By all means, get a CWP if it makes you feel more comfortable, but quit with the doom and gloom.

How many cars have been shot at this past year in Anderson? Maybe 4 or 5? Out of 200,000?

I'll take my chances without a gun with those kind of odds. You're much more likely to be hurt by your own gun than somebody elses.

In a comment above, unregistered said that SC has some of the most strict concealed weapons laws in the country, and yet, it takes only 8 hours plus a SLED check to get this permit?? That is ridiculous. It scares me that people not properly trained are permitted by law to carry guns.

I got mine from Lt. Mike Mitchell at the sheriff's department. He will come to your group, he doesn't do it at the sheriff's department. He is really good! Give him a call and see if he has a class scheduled or schedule a class.
