— A motorist was not injured on Friday, even though his car ran down an embankment and into a creek in Anderson.

County rescue teams needed about 30 minutes to rescue the motorist after his car ran off West Whitner Street and plummeted about 10 feet into a creek. Witnesses said the accident happened about 7:30 a.m., just outside the city limits.

Witness Wayne Moore said the “driver just drifted” across traffic lanes, crossed a sidewalk and went into the creek, leaving the older model Buick LeSabre in an almost vertical plane.

The driver remained inside until rescue personnel arrived, blocking the street to traffic. Rescue workers treated the man while others used ropes to secure the Buick. A team of other rescuers forced the driver’s door open, loading the driver onto a stretcher.

Oscar Santiago said the driver, whose identity was not available, had been parked across Whitner Street from the creek.

“He was laying down, woke up and drove over here,” Santiago said.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. And only one person was in the car.

Duane Ellis said he was riding on Whitner when he saw motion coming from the parking lot that serves automobile repair shops.

“It was like his car was in neutral and came across the street,” Ellis said. “I thought no one was in it. Then I saw the man holding his head.”

its ok guy... i thought it was funny...
Yanno sunshinegrrl... if i lived my life getting bent out of shape over what COULD happen instead of what DOES happen i'd be heavily sedated in a padded room somewhere.. Yeah the guy drove into a ditch.. and he's fine. Move on. LOL He's probably sitting around laughing at his stupidity as well.. unless he's a neurotic person like some people and worry about what might have happened.. lol

i lived in that area and the creek is not much higher than 8 foot below the road but what gets me is the rescue personal using rope and repelling down to the water heck my kids have walked up and down the bank with no rope

he might be laughing but he better be somwhere thanking the lord he made it safe.i don't think it 's funny i lost my grandmother in a car wreck.it could have been worse.i don't live my life bent out of shape.tomorrow is not a promise.i live my life to the fullest and i hope yall all do.

Better be careful living your life to the fullest. You just might end up in a creek.

Cut GUY some slack, He said "I hope the driver is not injured"! I think most of us in here have lost someone we know due to a car accident.

Don't be so uptight! Laugh a little, you will live longer!!
