Officials warn of counterfeit checks being circulated in Upstate

— Checks from the First Savers Bank of Seneca and drawn on the Oconee County Sewer Commission should be suspected to be counterfeit, according to Capt. Mike Crenshaw of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

Crenshaw said a business in Central, which is in Pickens County, had cashed three payroll checks of that description that were all counterfeit.

“Anyone having received these checks, or if someone attempts to cash these checks, should contact their respective law enforcement agency,” Crenshaw said. “The main two criteria for businesses to look for are that the checks have the sewer commission’s name and First Savers Bank’s name on them. If these two names are listed on the check, do not cash, as it is considered counterfeit. The Sheriff’s Office will release additional information as it becomes available.”
