Rescue workers in Anderson collect food for charities

STORY TOOLS

— Anderson County emergency rescue workers are banning together to help the Anderson community in a different way this week.

They are collecting food to help address the shortage of donations to food banks in Anderson, said Medshore Ambulance Service marketing manager Jeff Jackson.

“We’d like to fill up an ambulance,” Jackson said. “If we could fill up two or three, that would be great.”

All the food collected will be distributed to the Good Neighbor Cupboard and Anderson Interfaith Ministries, Jackson said.

Medshore Ambulance Service employees and the Pendleton, Belton, Fork and Williamston rescue squads are participating in the food drive. On May 22 and May 23, at least one ambulance will be posted at the Wal-Mart on the S.C. 28 Bypass in Anderson from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. each day so people can drop off nonperishable food items.

On May 22, 23 and 24, an ambulance will be posted at the Wal-Mart on Liberty Highway in Anderson. Workers will be on hand there from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. as well, Jackson said.

Anyone who cannot make it to one of the Wal-Mart drop off sites on those days can take donations to their local emergency medical services station.

For more information, call Jackson at (864) 260-4580.
