Sometimes, when you live someplace long enough, you realize you have missed certain obvious gems in the community. This especially comes up where local restaurants are concerned.
To fix those oversights, lunch is often the best time to find a place you haven’t yet eaten and then take the plunge into the unknown. It might be good, it might be bad, but it will be an adventure.
All too often, we don’t go somewhere new or different because we don’t know what to expect. That is where this new feature, “Let’s Do Lunch,” comes in. Each week, we will highlight a different spot for lunch. We tell you about prices, atmosphere and anything else you need to know before showing up and chowing down.
And if you have a place we should go, don’t hesitate to drop a line. It’s always lunchtime around here.
The Grapevine Deli, 2005 E. Greenville St., Anderson; 864.261.7722
Tucked away inside a small group of shops off U.S. 81 in Anderson is The Grapevine Deli. The dining area is not big, the kitchen is modest and they are only open three hours a day, five days a week.
With that kind of window, it should be perfect for a quick, yet relaxed, sandwich lunch.
The menu at Grapevine isn’t overwhelming. A few staples of the sandwich world in a Turkey Melt, the Italian Sub and a Grilled Chicken Breast on Bun are mainstays and they always have roast beef, ham and tuna or chicken salad.
But with summer, the Apple-A-Day looked like the way to go.
Turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo sounds basic, but they add a little twist with green apple slices that pulls the whole thing to a different place. While it comes on a croissant, the sandwich slingers there are happy to switch up bread for you.
Sandwiches come with chips, grapes and a pickle, and they make homemade soups. And look for special prices on some of their stuff each day.
Prices range from $3 to $6 and they carry desserts as well.
