WALHALLA — Escalating prices are having a negative effect on just about everything these days. A project to move an old church in Oconee County is also a victim to rising prices.
Efforts to move the Old St. John’s Episcopal Church have been stalled by rising prices, according to Maxie Duke, chairwoman of the committee raising funds to move the building from North Pine Street to 200 S. Catherine St. at the Depot Complex known as Kaufman Park.
The committee has begun negotiations with Ricky Cummings, a man interested in removing the roof and putting it back on after the structure is moved.
Duke says additional benefits and fundraisers are in discussions as well. Several area civic groups have been contacted to see if they would be willing to hold a fundraiser. The Questers of the Foothills has pledged a benefit next March, but Duke said extra funds are needed as soon as possible.
If anyone would like to aid in this endeavor please call Maxie Duke at (864) 638-5200.
