ANDERSON Thieves wasted little time in targeting a $280 catalytic converter when a Pelzer woman removed a flat tire from her vehicle on Interstate 85 and shared a ride to another location for repair.
Between noon and 1:45 p.m. Friday near I-85’s mile marker 16, thieves crawled under a 1995 Honda, according to an Anderson County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
After noticing a white truck and a man leaving the scene, the 19-year-old woman realized something was wrong when she replaced the tire and attempted to crank her Honda.
“When she looked under the vehicle, she found that the catalytic converter had been sawed or cut off the vehicle and was gone,” Deputy Bill Simpson said in the report.
