Teen girl arrested in Iva for lack of table etiquette

STORY TOOLS

— A dispute Monday between two 17-year-old women during lunch at Crescent High School in Iva was broken up seconds before the arrival of a school resource officer, who put one of the teens behind bars.

Ashley Day of Anderson was charged with assault and battery and taken to the Anderson County Detention Center around noon Monday, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the incident report, Day reportedly confronted the other teen for talking about her, igniting violence at a table in the school lunchroom.

Day allegedly grabbed the other teen and “threw her onto the floor and started hitting her,” Deputy B. K. Baxter wrote in a report about the incident.

Lovely title, made me think the story was about something else. Is this really newsworthy? (Sarcasm) Good work AIM. (/sarcasm)

OH PULEEZE. When I was in High School there were fights all the time. No one ever called the police because punishment was done at school. They knew they were gonna get their behinds torn up by someone in the office. But back in my day, to use a cliche, we respected the authority in schools.

Does anything positive ever happen in the Starr-Iva region? Is there any way that they can be kicked out of Anderson County? I think they would fit in better with the Abbeville crowd.

in response to truth28

That was just mean. We need their tax dollars in Anderson County. We never tell them they do not belong here...at least not to their faces!

in response to truth28

Yes, many things happen in Starr-Iva that this paper just chooses to ignore. I live in the area and many things do happen at school. As for the fight itself, it was no big problem, a little hair pulling and thats it. And i think that your comment about Starr and Iva was very rude.

Does this paper not have anything better to write about honestly, if this would have happened at Hanna nothing would have been said. Just because it was Crescent it was some big mockery. This paper needs to actually write something positive about Starr and Iva for a change, Its no wonder we catch so much junk from other areas. It's this ignorant paper's fault!

in response to truth28

Oh yeah because there are NEVER catfights at Hanna or Westside...not! I graduated from Crescent and can only remember a couple of fights there. Can other recent high school graduates from other area schools say the same thing?

What's with the violence? What ever happened to the good ol' food fight? Aaah, the memories of sloppy joes and baked beans flying through the air. :-)

Who Won?

FIGHT! FIGHT!

in response to Freedom_Of_Speech

I think maybe the one that didn't get thrown to the floor. lol, seriously this happens most every day at all the schools.

in response to setemstraight23

I live in Starr too. Some people are not sweeping under their own rug. There is a whole lot more going on in the district 5 and the other schools. I have children that graduated from Crescent and have always been glad we lived in a more decent district. I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. Before I never would have written how bad the other districts are in my eyes for other people to see and get their feelings hurt. I guess feelings don't matter much anymore though kind of like morals.

I hear a lot of jealousy in these comments. I don't recall any student being arrested for bringing a gun to school(or knife), suspect of robbery, theft, rape, murder, or "gang" activity.
They like big trucks and bigger mudholes, hunting, fishing, tractor pulls, farming, and having "a good ol' time" down on the creek. Starr- Iva area is not a big city with bright lights and lots to do all night long. There are no perfect schools or communities but we do care about God, family, and friends, and we have respect for our elders and each other.
Yeah, if I lived anywhere else I'd be jealous too.

CLEMSONGIRL:
I agree with you 100%

MDALE
Amen!! I don't live in Starr-Iva(beautiful country land btw) I live in the FairPlay/Townville area(also "god's country") and the kids out there like the same things(trucks,mud,tractors,etc.). Sounds to me like this girl got a good ol' "country butt woopin'".
Assault and battery charge and sent to the ACDC sounds a little much to me.
Couldn't they give her 5 days IN-SCHOOL suspension?

I remember getting in-school suspension and the paddle and it was awful, sitting there ALL DAY in one room, can't talk, can't move. I learned my lesson from it.

in response to clemson_girl

I agree. BUT....that's what happens when children are left to be raised by teachers and anybody other than the parent. Then you get these kicked around kids that have been pushed off on everybody b/c the parents were too selfish to care, and the kids decide they want some attention and decide to blow up their school or a couple of teachers and classmates and then none of our children are safe anymore. Forgoet the principal...my MAMA would have killed me if I did anything disrespectful at school. UNLESS I was provoked...but you're right. And it's a shame that the police have to take the role they're in b/c children just are not cared for anymore.

in response to mdale

Gee, I couldn't have said it any better. I put 3 kids through Crescent High school. Never had any problems with them and they are just as redneck as they come. Yep my son has big truck and my daughters like mudd riding and they all have 4 wheelers. Beauty contests weren't their thing. Wranglers and boots were their Sunday best. I taught them beauty is only skin deep. I'm just getting a little sick and tired of people putting Iva down.

in response to setemstraight23

Oh yall, truth28 aint rude. He or she is JEALOUS!! hahahahaha

in response to truth28

ok listen alot of positive things come out of OUR area and were proud of it...i saw this fight and it wasnt anything just some hair pulling and a few punches. Just like my friend set em straight said had this happened at hanna or westside nothing would have been said. This paper never notices any of the good things that happens here

in response to mdale

im a junior at crescent and i love crescent!!! that fight was a not a fight one punch and it was over! who ever said that there never any thing about knifes and stuff like that dnt know what the heck they are talkin about. i know people who carry knifes to school all the time there just smart enough not to b useing it around the principles and stuff and if anybody wants to say somein let me know.

Now come on. The last few comments are what makes people feel that way about us.

its the truth and u know i stand up for what i love im just pissed cause every body always thinks that we are bad people never c the good things in us

Seriously ffakid, you are not helping our case here.

I just read about a 13 year old boy from Anderson getting locked up for assulat at school. Like I said what goes around comes around.

I went to BHP and graduated just after the full tiem resources officers were placed in school. We never really had trouble with a lot of fights but when there were fights they weren't conducted at school - while the consequences for the girl fighting may seem harsh - all students in schools now know that if you fight you may end up in jail. Kind of hard to say that she should have just been slapped on the wrist and let go if she knowingly did something that could result in going to jail. If she cares - she won't do it again - if she doesn't - she'll see a lot more of the ACDC in her future.

I'm all about some country "livin"

YEEEE HAAWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My goodness this has been one of the main topics for a week, There is real stories out there.

If they are arresting people in the Starr Iva community for a lack of etiquette, everyone in both towns might as well report to the county jail.

in response to pink_rfc

i talked to ashley today and she agreed wit me im not goin to sit here and let people from around the county talk about the bad things when was the last time u heard something good in the paper about crescent

in response to truth28

I think it is time for you to shut up. For one thing there isn't enough room for us in the freaking jail or even prison because it is full of low lifes like you. You want to stand behind this computer to run your mouth about people you don't even know. What your problem with Iva? So what if we country, grow up or shut up!

in response to FFAkid_Git_R_Done

Dude.....Git_A_Education !

All us n star ivar is just beer drinkin', gun totin', church goin', tobacco chewin', mud doggin', 4 wheelin', sister marryin', boot wearin', animal lovin' good ole country folk.

I'm surprised that Deputy Baxter didn't fall asleep on the way to the Lunch room, like he did when he wrecked his Patrol Car this year.

Wow.

The comments made by some Anderson County residents are doing more damage to our reputations then any fight between two teenagers could ever do.

The ONLY REASON this fight was published in the paper/posted on the website is because the Resource Officer filed a report.

If ya'll have a problem with the people down in Starr and Iva why don't you just go down there and tell them just what you think. Before you go let me know I want to watch. I am sure there would be more that would like to see this, maybe I'll get a tour bus.

FFAKID:

With the way you are responding to these comments(spelling, grammar, name calling), I sure hope you are NOT considering being a Future Farmer of America!!!!

in response to CEM29655

im with u on that one

in response to mdale

dnt worry bout me im good to go. i aint no yankee

in response to proud2busa

ur too late if i need to b proper i will right now it dnt matter

why do u have a problem with the way im responding?

in response to In_Search_Of_Truths

i agree i saw that it was funny

in response to FFAkid_Git_R_Done

LOL....I pretty dang sure that you text a lot. It's not that you can't spell it's that you are used to cutting your words short texting because believe it or not I do the same thing. It must be an Iva thing.

in response to CEM29655

No, it's a LAZY thing. These habits are going to affect today's kids when they go for job interviews and get into the adult world. They don't know or believe it yet but the day will come.
This kid is getting a kick out reading responses to his redneck attitude. All kids in Crescent are not like this one, Thank God, but it makes it appear as if he's a self-appointed spokesperson. He deserves no more responses on the subject.

in response to mdale

I stand corrected!

Yea this is surely newsworthy. I guess aim prints stories like this to keep us distracted from the real issues that affect us. Why don't they write about something important like the county reassessing property values to raise our taxes. House values are plummeting everywhere in the country, except here in Anderson evidently. But never mind that, let's worry about a cat-fight at Crescent.

in response to mdale

get a life i bet i got a better job than u could ever have that shows u dnt need an education to get a good payin job in todays world

in response to CEM29655

it is

in response to FFAkid_Git_R_Done

You may need to sit this one out, you're not helping your case with your post!!

in response to FFAkid_Git_R_Done

You are an idiot. If you spent a little more time listening in school you wouldn't be a 32 yr. old junior at cow patty high. Hey there is always a chance you could win the greased pig catching competition at the depot days festival, that would maybe bring in a little money for you and your ten inbred kids.

in response to FFAkid_Git_R_Done

I think it is a wonderful thing that you have school pride. However, before leaving a comment to disprove the idea that Crescent and the town of Iva is sub-par, you might consider using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Gee lets talk about something else. How about the gas prices. Where s the cheapest gas around. Enmart in Anderson had it at 2.92 a gallon today when I got off. Had you seen it any cheaper?

in response to rbbugg24

First of all you have no right to suggest that this girl's parents have left their child to be raised by teachers or been pushed off on anybody else. You have no idea what happens in someone elses home. I am quite sure they never wanted their child to get in trouble for fighting at school. When kids become a certain age, they tend to try to handle certain situations by themselves. Lesson is mind your own business, don't harass others, and this kind of thing won't happen. But nobody will just sit there while someone else taunts them and calls them names.

The thing is that just bc you are from Starr or Iva doesn't prove a thing as to what kind of character you have. I see stories reported everyday about people shooting, killing, robbing ect reported in this paper and guess what most of them are from Anderson, not Starr or Iva, but what do you guys have to say about that? I was born and raised in Starr & I completely love it. My husband and I own our own business and do just fine with the education that we recieved at Crescent. And still today we choose to raise our three children in this district & I would have it no other way. I have a friend that is a guidence counselor in district five and you should hear some of the things that I hear students are caught doing in those schools, you'd be surprised! Funny thing you never read those in the paper though! If people would stop digging to see what they could find on us and look in their own back yards, they'd be surprised what they might find! So set out on that journey and let me know what you find out there. Of course you have too much pride to admit that all of our kids do wrong also. Well enough said! But just let ya know I am watching and I'll be sure to report or post some of the spontaneous things I see in the weeks to come!

okay....My mom has been the one writing these comments but I am a teenager so I will let tell ya'll what I see from my point of view. I am from the Starr-Iva area. Yes, I went to Crescent. I loved going to Crescent. When I was in school we maybe had 3 fights the whole year. It was never nothing big. Everyone around here gets alone and knows each other and hangs out together. Over the summer some friends and I would go to Anderson to hang out. It doesn't matter where we were hanging out there was always a fight. It was never Iva people. It was ALWAYS Anderson guys and girls. I just couldn't believe people would just start fighting over anything. We stopped going to Anderson. I ain't saying we don't do stupid stuff and that we don't fuss down here because we do. When we get mad or anything it only will last a week or so. One person on here brought up something about all we do is mud ride and like jacked up trucks. Well thats true. Anderson people like and have them to. The only thing Anderson has better than us is more places to hang out and bigger schools. Thats about it. Ya'll can make fun of us for being from Iva but until you live here you shouldn't. If you go online and look about how good we are in sports and FFA we are not bad. I have friends that go to schools in Anderson and they hate it. Why would you like going to a school where drugs are being sold, people are bringing guns to school, and fights are breaking out all the time. I have to say the they have crack down on Crescent. We have checks all the time looking for drugs and guns. They never find anything at all. I love living here. I can walk outside my house at night and it be so peaceful. I don't have lights everywhere or a house in my back yard. Ya'll call us Cow Patty High but so do we. Our FFA is one of the best around here. The teachers that teacher FFA went to CLEMSON!!!! Crescent has a great softball team. We are great a wrestling too. Why don't you come and live in Iva for a few weeks? You would never want to go back to Anderson. Some new people just moved in front of my house and they are from out of state. They would rather live in Iva than Anderson. Depot Day is something where everyone gets to come together. Don't go and talk bad about it. I bet if you would stop trash talking and just come to see what it is then you really might enjoy yourself. Why don't ya'll just stop all this fussing? It's so stupid. It was one little fight. Ya'll aren't any better than the ones fighting. We all have something that we like about where we live. That's how its always going to be.

in response to FFAkid_Git_R_Done

i agree im a sophmore at crescent and yoiu never hear anything bad about other schools, in my opinion the peper just pokes fun at Starr and Iva

Spellcheck?

Hold on, I need another box of popcorn.

Thanks to everyone posting for my afternoon entertainment!

Dang when Iva gets in the paper it really is BIG news.

Instead of going to see Starr Iva, I think I'll just watch some reruns of Hee Haw.

Glad you are not coming this way.

in response to truth_28

We don't want your kind here anyway. So get yourself a life.

This is just too funny, maybe Jeff Foxworthy could use this material on his "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" Larry the Cable Guy would love it!

I feel that if you were not born and raised in Iva/Starr or if you have not lived there for a considerable amount of time, you really have no grounds to be poking fun at the people who do live there. Otherwise, it's all just hear-say or a few encounters you have to go by.
Fights happen in all schools, so the story has no relation to Iva/Starr specifically. I just can't believe that they involve the law nowdays for such petty fights, especially when weapons are not involved.
Yeah, a majority of people in Iva/Starr can probably be considered "country", but why is that seen as a bad thing to some. If more people were interested in big trucks, mud-riding, etc. then there would be less time for them to get involved in the bad things we see our kids doing nowdays.
Some of the posts here may seem uneducated or a prime example of how you see Iva/Starr people, but these are kids/teenagers. If this was about Westside or Hanna and some of their students were responding to the same thing about their school or reputation, you'd get the same results, most likely. But no one or two people represent a whole town by no means.
I was raised in Iva and graduated from Crescent. I'm educated, I'm a business owner, but I also like my big trucks (preferrably Jeeps) and mud riding from time to time. Even when I was a kid, people said the same things about Iva tha they are saying now. But it never bothered me at all. Actually, I felt lucky to be raised in a small town. I just wished that Burger King and Subway was allowed there back when I was a kid :-)

in response to LoftisPC

i agree where was u like two weeks ago!!
