ANDERSON Claiming to be a graduate of Clemson University and a former car dealer, an Anderson man took a $6,000 responsibility Thursday for passing 10 bad checks during a time of drug addiction.
Michael Cheek, 39, of Altmont Court told Anderson Municipal Court Judge Ken Mattison that he had been on a “crime spree for five months” that also left him facing criminal charges in Mississippi as well as in Greenville, Anderson and Oconee counties. Saying he had been jailed since March 2007 in Greenville, Cheek said he has trying to put his troubles behind him.
Mattison ordered Cheek to pay fines of $5,110 or spend 300 days in jail plus restitution of $615.33 to Wal-Mart and $300 in service charges.
