Royston to celebrate fall with festival Saturday

STORY TOOLS

— It's been going on every fall for 21 years, but ever since the Royston Downtown Development Authority took over sponsoring Royston's annual fall festival three years ago, the event has undergone improvements.

That’s according to Downtown Development Authority president Chuck Viers.

This year’s festival is scheduled to happen Saturday and, according to Viers, it promises to be another terrific day for a family outing.

“We’ll have 70 different vendors that will be down, and that includes approximately 12 different types of food vendors from barbecue to turkey wings, so there will be something for everyone, so you won’t go hungry,” Viers said. “We will also have lots of arts and crafts booths as well as novelties for all ages.”

Those novelties include fun games and rides from a local vendor in Carnesville, as well as a range of live music to suit everyone’s taste.

“We will have a kid’s zone, bands playing throughout the day, dancers and clogging will be performing,” said Royston City-Downtown Development Authority liaison Mitch Skelton. “At noon we’ll have the Ray Family Bluegrass Band. At 3 p.m. God’s Love contemporary Christian band will perform. Then from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. we’ll have our Street Dance on Moonlight Drive and fireworks at 9 p.m.”

Also new this year will be an antique and vintage car show in downtown Royston.

The festival is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. and run until 11 p.m. Admission is free.
