STORY TOOLS

— East End Elementary School has received the prestigious national 2008 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon School award, according to the South Carolina Department of Education. East End is one of only four South Carolina Schools and 320 schools nationwide receiving the 2008 award.

For the past 26 years, this program has honored America’s most successful schools. The award distinguishes and honors schools for helping students achieve at very high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap.

“What an outstanding honor and accomplishment this is for the entire East End community,” said Lee M. D’Andrea, School District of Pickens County superintendent.

This year’s winners will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on October 20-21. Phyllis Venable, a fifth- grade teacher, will accompany the principal to the ceremony. Following their return, a school-wide celebration which will include a blue parade is planned for the afternoon of October 22. Children and guests will be encouraged to wear blue.
