AC/DC’s latest CD, “Black Ice,” is said to be stylistically similar to the band’s 1980 masterpiece, “Back In Black.” Come to think of it, everything the band has done since 1980 has been similar to “Back In Black.” The 15-track disc is being sold exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.
The latest CD from Of Montreal is titled “Skeletal Lamping.” Earlier this year, bandleader Kevin Barnes told Billboard the album is “more bipolar than schizophrenic,” although presumably it’s okay for the mentally stable to listen to it. The group’s psychedelic pop sound — much beloved among critics — remains gloriously intact.
Speaking of mental health, country veteran Lee Ann Womack’s new CD is titled “Call Me Crazy.” The disc features guest vocals from Keith Urban and George Strait. Womack co-wrote four of the twelve tracks, although the first single, “Last Call,” was penned by Erin Enderlin and Shane McAnally.
Lenny Kravitz, Wyclef Jean and Gamble and Huff all lent their production skills to “Back To Now,” the first album from Patti LaBelle in 33 years. Comprising LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash, the trio is best known for the single “Lady Marmalade,” which topped the Billboard pop singles chart in 1975. The track was famously spiced up in 2001, when Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya and Pink covered it for the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack.
Other noteworthy releases include Kenny Chesney’s “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven,” Gary Louris’s “Acoustic Vagabond,” and a four-disc retrospective from Kiss titled “IKONS.”
