The Incredible Hulk DVD comes out Oct. 21.

STORY TOOLS

Short and sweet, as there aren’t a lot of notable releases hitting the shelves next week, but the third week of October does bring us two must-see films (and both of them star Liv Tyler!). The first is another comic book adaptation that exceeds expectations, the other is a gritty horror film that became a modest hit in theatres.

First up, Ed Norton brings us his version of Bruce Banner in “The Incredible Hulk” (Universal Studios, $23.99 SRP, PG-13). Superior to 2003’s “The Hulk” in every way, this movie finds Bruce Banner still seeking an antidote to his condition, on the run from a determined Army general who wants him caught and studied. Banner’s alter ego, The Hulk, soon finds himself facing off against The Abomination, a creature spawned of the same gamma radiation experiment that caused the big green guy’s creation. Tim Roth, Liv Tyler and William Hurt co-star in this fun and exciting hit with some “incredible” special effects. The DVD includes a special effects featurette, making of documentary and more.

And, look out! Liv Tyler makes this weeks’ other notable release a must see as well. A surprise hit this summer, “The Strangers” (Universal Studios, $23.99 SRP, R) is an incredibly tense little film that delivers on the scares. A suburban couple returning to their semi-secluded house after attending a wedding finds their lives suddenly thrown into chaos with the arrival of three malevolent, masked strangers in director Bryan Bertino’s tense tale of survival. Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman star as the couple forced to resort to violence they never thought themselves capable of as they struggle for their lives against the merciless masked invaders. The DVD includes the featurette “The Elements of Terror” and deleted scenes.

My cult pick of the week has a crazy title, but please don’t let that keep you from checking it out. It’s called “Trailer Park of Terror” (Universal Studios, $24.99, R), and it’s a real hoot. Based on the popular comic series of the same name, “Trailer Park of Terror” opens as a group of six juvenile delinquents and their chaperone become hopelessly stranded in a raging storm. Left with no other choice than to seek shelter in a remote trailer park in the so-called Trucker’s Triangle, the desperate, waterlogged group is warmly greeted by Norma — a dolled-up, trash-talking tart with a monstrous secret. Later, as the thankful group settles in for the night, trailer park reaper Norma reveals her grotesque true colors as her army of gut-munching redneck zombies emerge from their graves for an unholy feast of human flesh. Oh yeah…right up my alley!

Other releases next week include the Ben Stein-starring documentary “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” (Premise, $19.99 SRP, Unrated), “Family Guy: Volume 6” (Fox, $35.99 SRP, Unrated), and Matthew Perry in “Birds Of America” (First Look Pictures, $20.98 SRP, R).
