Crescent's Week 8 win boosts confidence

STORY TOOLS

Crescent snapped a 4-game losing streak Friday in a 36-22 win over Walhalla in part because the Tigers limited themselves to one turnover. Turnovers have been one of the biggest problems in their five losses.

But scoring first, and leading 22-14 at halftime gave Crescent (3-5, 1-2) something it lacked during the losing streak.

"Having success early really helped us," Crescent coach Troy Gamble said.

Gamble noted that in Crescent’s 36-0 loss to Emerald, the Tigers had a 67-yard touchdown run called back on a holding penalty.

"You can see the air go out," Gamble said.

While trying to change the attitude in the program, Gamble said last week’s win gives the Tigers confidence traveling to Liberty (2-6, 0-3) this week in a game that could help determine fourth place — and the final playoff spot — in the Skyline region.

"As a coaching staff we are aware of it," Gamble said. "But it has not been addressed by the team, nor will it be."

To win its second straight, Gamble said the Tigers might look for the kind of emotion they showed against Walhalla, which was lacking during the losing streak.

"They kind of messed up," Gamble said of his players. "Because they showed they can come together and show a little emotion. So we can’t go backwards now."
