Potential playoff matchups feature Anderson County rematch

STORY TOOLS

Time is running out for a team near you to make some hay for the playoffs. Here are some scenarios that could play out in the coming weeks.

There could be a rematch of two Anderson County Class 2A teams: Palmetto and Pendleton. If the Bulldogs remain in second place in Region 1-AA, they would face the third-place team from Region 2, which could be Palmetto if the Mustangs win out. Barring an Abbeville loss to Emerald or Liberty, Pendleton should remain in second, especially with the head-to-head tiebreaker against Emerald. The Bulldogs play Walhalla and Crescent to finish the season.

Palmetto is in fourth place, one game behind Broome. The Mustangs play at Carolina and host Broome to finish the season. If Palmetto stays in fourth, it would likely play Abbeville.

If you recall, Pendleton beat Palmetto, 30-23, on Sept. 19.

For the Western 3A fans, Daniel looks to have a first-round playoff game against Clinton or Union County. Lions fans remember Union’s 44-41 win against Daniel in the 2005 playoffs. And if the standings hold up, Belton-Honea Path could have a rematch with Clinton, which beat the Bears 20-19 on Sept. 26.
