Oconee school officials hold briefing for candidates

— Candidates for three seats on the School District of Oconee County board of trustees that will be on the November ballot will hold a briefing at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the teacher training center at the school district’s administrative offices on 414 South Pine Street. Candidates include Buddy Herring, Seth Chea and Terry Schiazza, who are seeking the District 5 seat now held by board chairman Harry Mays. Mays, who has served for 26 years, is not seeking re-election. Incumbent Denise McCormick in District 4 is unopposed in the non-partisan election and incumbent Ken Poston in District 2 faces Rosemary Bailes. Candidates will hear from superintendent Mike Lucas. Other school officials who will also make presentations include Diane England, instructional services; Michael Thorsland, operational services; Earnestine Williams, human resources, Kay Powell, community services and public information.
