ANDERSON COUNTY Anderson County Sheriff’s deputies began investigations Tuesday into four thefts during or right after Labor Day that resulted in the loss of items valued at $13,300.
Officials at Davis Steel Manufacturing in Piedmont said thieves took steel containers, valued at about $3,900, according to the incident report.
Between 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, a thief stole a customized “rail buggy,” fashioned from a 1965 Volkswagen. The vehicle, valued at $6,000, was taken from Winfred Brock Road in Iva, according to another report.
In Honea Path, thieves took advantage of an empty house and removed copper from a central air conditioning unit on Holiday Dam Road. The loss is estimated at $2,000, a third report states.
And Tuesday morning, a 29-year-old Anderson woman told deputies that thieves removed items valued at $1,460 from her Manley Drive home during a 90-minute span when she was away and a “new” boyfriend was alone at the home.
The 21-year-old man denied taking the items, but “offered to replace them so that he would have a good name,” according to Deputy S.E. Rushton’s version of the alleged victim’s account. According to the inventory, the thief stole video games, an X-360 Elite system, a Game Cube and jewelry.
